you can only hope. there are many measures in place for us to verify that we will not bomb ourselves. but there's something called Fog of war.

Has Dr. Who ever been a grunt? Or is he just stating the obvious that fraticide is a sad thing and posting propagada?
Even in the SAF during training we can get blue on blue incidents even within the controlled environment of the training exercise. It is indeed fortunate that we were not using live rounds at that time. The fog of war is something very real that all grunts have to deal with, and that will end up taking some lives. -

is the friendly fire intentional and deliberate or a true mistake? Any prior bad blood between them?

This is a real war we're talking about. Unless there's technology that makes it smth like what the tanks and other vehicles have, a friendly target identifier using RFID tech on every single grunts, vehicles on the ground and interlink with every other weapons in the army that have an indication that you're pointing that weapon towards a friendly.
But hey if this method is available to grunts on the ground, the terrorist may take advantage of this system and if they're clever enough, could use this system and get close to US soldiers to kill them under cover of the dark and protection of friendly RFID tagging.
This kind of thing can't be fool proof i guess.
Fog of war.. Its a reality.. Even u play call of duty or something like that u anxious will also shoot at friendly.. not to talk about real life when ur life is at stake.. --; Friendly fire happens everywhere during war time. Live with it. -
RFID kinda too short range and can also be made use of by the enemy. Also likely to be jammed.
BMS is supposed to reduce blue on blues, but its impossible to eliminate it totally.
From the perspective of close air support, unless there are some sort of smoke grenade marking friendly positions, it is hard to identify friendly troops and sometimes vehicles from the air. Use smoke however, may obscure the targeting sensors of certain munitions. -

Pat Tillman (1976 ~ 2004)
Died in Afghanistan. His unit burned his body armor and uniform in an apparent attempt to hide the fact that he was killed by friendly fire.
What made this different is he, along with his brother Kevin , quit his million $$$ football profession and sign on to US Ranger after 9-11.

My friend got gunned down by his OC during ATEC, and doing FOFO in my case one of the instructors shot his a friendly while moving around a corner after a mix up, right in front of the trainees as well.
If you have been involved in a firefight, or trained to be in one, you know just how confusing it can get.
