In my earlier post which I am reproducing it here in Red, I did not state that Habibe is a [b]M'sian. Open your eyes big and read it one more time: Hopefully these tanks will not leak in water, like those in which ex-president Habibe purchased out-dated World War II tanks from Germany.

For the millions who live in S.E. Asian countries and who have been reading newspapers often and seeing Habibe's face on tv during Suharto's time, we alll know him to be an Indonesian. There can be no mistake about Habibe's nationality. You youself appear to be 'very blur'

Indonesia did not buy any tanks from Germany.
The former East Germany however did supply Indonesia with a number of secondhand warships which were deemed surplus to requirements. These included 12 Frosch-1 class LSTs, 2 Frosch-2 class LSTs, 9 Kondor class minesweepers and 16 Parchim class corvettes.
The main addition to Indonesian armour in recent years was a small number of secondhand BTR-50 APCs and BMP-2 IFVs from Ukraine, drawn from former Soviet stock.
12 new-build BTR-80 APCs were also delivered from Russia in 2002. -
Maybe their PT-76 is from former east Germany , regarding the ww2 tank it's pure BS :p

Speaking of which, the original RFI for attack helos way back in 1998 was for a requirement for 30 machines.
Subsequently, the RSAF procured a total of 20 (8+12 in two batches). My opinion is either on costs or that the current threat environment can be well met by just 20.
What are your views on whether more will be procured in the future? -
For those who knew, I think we will need to get the next 10 apaches man. Haha. Later another send off, end up, have to hangar queen more apaches. MUAHAHAHA.

And no amount of armour on the Apache can stop a anti-aircraft missile.
Furthermore, our more than 100 fixed-wing aircrafts are also capable of ground attack and less-vulnerable to ground fire. (Actually the Super Skyhawks are BEST.)
The IDF have demonstrated in past wars the destructive capability and survivability of fixed-wing aircrafts in the ground attack role.
I could be wrong but it must be difficult for a pilot to bail out of a damaged chopper without being cut to pieces by the rotor.

To me, I see the roles of these expensive and vulnerable Apaches more as a escort/defence/suppression element for our heliborne units or armoured/armoured infantry colums - AFTER fixed wing bombers have more or less cleared the way.

If we do need more attack choppers, we don't necessarily need to buy more expensive Apaches. We can convert utility choppers to the attack role as a SUPPLEMENT.
The Syrians demonstrated in Lebanon 20 years ago that Gazelles armed with ATGM worked very well against IDF armoured columns.
So I don't think we should get more Apaches, though they are a "nice-to-have". -
We should convert perhaps half of our Chinook fleet to a gunship config.

To supplement Apaches something small fast and nimble of the scout/attack class armed with TOW etc would be best. -

Also...in-case somebody comes and kpkb say think of logistical costs and what not...I offer alternate solution with what we already have...the C130 converted to the Spectre gunship config. -

I think this issue has popped up before and somebody mentioned about the political liability of use DU ammunition. So, if we get A-10s, I think their capabilities will be reduced somewhat due to this restriction.
