Will China remember how the people of Malaya and Singapore raised funds to help them fight their enemies in World War 2 ? ( Lim Bo Seng and his Chinese Chamber of Commerce people had to flee when the Japanese came because of their funding of the Chinese war effort.)
Will China remember and come to our aid if we are attacked someday? -
The simple answer is that if it serves China's interest, China will help.

China is not one of the practitioners of traditional real-politik. It applies high principles and ideals in international diplomacy. Notice it did invade Vietnam to punish the Vietnamese for invading its friend (Kampuchea). It retreated when its aims were met. And it also poured volunteers into Korea right after fighting a disastrous civil war, although in this case its interests were clearly at stake. When you have a friend that will risk an arm and a leg for you, in good times or bad, is it not the best ally you can ever have?

Erm....no....frankly i wont accept their help even if they offered it. Accept their aid for a second, and they will probably demand you to repay them after for a lifetime.

As a nation we opposed the communist in the 60's that they will remember. To really talk about WWII i think you are pushing it.
As people we are to them - In the past we are all from "China" there is no such thing as "Singaporean" , but later i think those who socialized with us come to a conclusion that we are oversea chinese decent who lost our roots.
(but I think recent years that has change)
So to talk about ties i don't think they will come to rescue unless of econcomic and political interest. -

One thing is for sure. The PRC is very concerned about the plight of overseas Chinese in recent years even though these ethnic Chinese are not their citizens. Take for example the May riots in Jarkarta in which the ethnic Chinese are deliberately targeted. The men and women are raped and killed. Their properties ransacked and torched. Thousands of these Indonesia Chinese fled to neighbouring countries in particular Singapore.
If i am not wrong the PRC government issued a statment and the semi-government organisations voice violent protest and condemnation. The online Chinese forums are full of support of the PRC government to take action. -
Yea I think they will do something... but to fight... and send peopel to die for us is another story...
We are a Chinese dominent country definitely will do something but to how much the amount...
China is concern of the plight of all Chinese around the world. Extend of help it will put in is another issue. It will also depends on our ties with China.
China did issue a statement during the Indonesia riot. But little much he can do. Can't really expect China to get involve with military at this point of time. Doesn't want the world to see China as a big aggressor. What about Singapore? We are near and has the ability to help. We does little too than just accepting the Chinese to come Singapore.
WWII simply becoz most of the locals are from China. Most Chinese still considered China as their homeland and expect to return one day. Nowadays new generation of Chinese in SG would rather die in SG. A different mindsets from my father and mine. -
The vietnam war and Korean war is a different issue.
Vietnam war is really ego. Vietnam did betrayed China in certain issues.
Korean is likely out of strategical advantage too. -

what about selling arms to sudan ? ... for the khartom goverment and arab militias to commit genocide ? ... in exchange for oil and such ? ..... cultivating Burma, providing her with cheap arms, loans and such, in return for securing her southern flank and maybe a naval port or a pipeline in the future ? ...
realpolitiks ? .... china ? ....
the vietnamese pwnzed china in the 79 border war ... and as for korea, they have historically crossed the yalu to secure their northern flank since the time of the japanese shoguns .... ditto tibet ....
China shall never be a friend ... only an ally of opportunity ... I hope you're actually one of dreameryb's clones ... else I'd say you're badly deluded ... -

do you know that in hainan island there are still villages and communites of indonesian born chinese who fled to china during various pogroms against the ethnic chinese in china ? .... some can't speak mandarin at all ... and they fled to hainan cos the climate there reminds them of indonesia ..... -

most of the malayan chinese that time still have love ones back in China...
somemore thats about 60yrs ago...
And everywhere in asia, people were facing a common enemy..the japs..
China politics is now so different from the past already...
Now china's influence is known as "Peaceful rise"...using soft power...
very different from usa's hard power policy...
anyway, singaporeans may think that the are big bosses in china, the true fact is china properly doesnt give much concern to this little city of 4million people called singapore. -

that the main component race of our country is chinese is just an accident of history ...

He said that Singapore is the 3rd China, behind PRC and ROC...
And even offered to stage the Chinese Reunification of PRC and ROC in Singapore..
It caused much controversy back then..

I'd sooner run to the US for help than run to China. I don't trust the Chinese leadership too much, and the idea of being a vassal to them makes me shudder.

look at the european colonies, its all about genocides, plundering, slavery, expliotation and mining...
at least china vassels of vietnam, korea, japan still kept their monarchs and autonomy.. trade and culture flourished in these vassel states..
