SIG-556 Assualt Rilfe

FInally got me the SIG-556 rifle. its a derivative of the SIG-551 series but takes M16 Stanag mags , an M4 type retractable buttstock. I mount an ACOG- TA-01 NSN on it.. the fit and finish is quite good, not as good as the SIG550 series. trigger is smooth like butter.. CAn;t belief a production rifle can have such crisp trigger ! thanks to teh Swiss Engineering. RIfle is in 1:7 twist so it will stabalize the SS109 or M855 62 grain 5.56 ammo and not as well on the 55 grain M193 bullet. BArrel is 16".. rifle feels a little front heavy and with the ACOG it is more balance now. magazine release button is a little far.. compared to the M4. Handguard is Ballistic polymer with PIcatinny rails for your NINJA stuff!
Will sight in and shoot it this weekend to see how it does.
A lot of comments saying the SIG 556 looks like M4 or AR15 and looks ugly!... but I feel this is better design to the SIG551 series becasue the folding stock is way too long and you cannot adjust to your shooting preference like with body armor and SBO where you need to shorten the length of the stock.. M16 mag is another good thing than to stock up another magazine type. So! I do prefer the sleek design of the SIG551 series but do like the 556 for its funtionality! I still get the quality of SIG and reliability and yet a lot of familiar AR trades is in it! SO! I trade the good looks of the SIG551 for funtionality of the 556!

NIce rifle to have.... No! the trigger is all proprietory SIG type ! So! I do not think it is interchangable with AR parts!

The SIG 550 series is my favourite-looking guns for 5.56 - besides the M16, of course.
For 7.62 it's the L1A1, like the one you have.
And the SMLE No. 4 Mk 1 wins the beauty prize for me for a bolt-action category.
For some funny reasons I like the idea of shotguns. I have never fired one before but I like their clean simple lines. Shotguns like Ithaca 37, Remington 870 and then this Benelli Nova... I think are really sexy. Their mere appearance will end most arguments. -

The rifle set me back $1249. not bad price for a SIG rifle. , good choice of weapons that you like... In fact I like those that you mentioned, the SIG 550, M4 series for the 5.56 rifle... for 7.62 I also liked the Inch pattern FAL ... Have 2 of those L1A1 in my pocession! great rifle.
Enfields! YEs !my favourite WW2 bolt action rifle ! I try to collect them, have a couple of SMLE No1. Mk3, NO.4, NO.5, No 4T, L39... still looking for the L42 and No.1 Mk5.... ENfields are great except for the avialaiblilty of good ammo .... I reload now for the 303 ammo so its okay now! We use to be able to get brand new in the wrapper NO.4 Mk2 for $150! gone were those days!
Shotguns are great little thing ! recenelty got me hook on a Russina Saiga 12... magazine fed and semi auto! have a MOssberg 590 pump! also some Over under 12 gauge .... THEY ARE fun to ahve! but using the wrong load and kick the hell out of you! Still my favourite shot gun is the Benelli M1!

All the SIG 550 series to the SIG556 has similar charging action like the AK. so! the charging or c0cking handle is on the right .... kind of not ergonomic like the FAL or AUG whic h is on the left

Can someone tell me about the SAR-21 drill? Co.ck with left or right?
I agree it is actually more logical to co.ck with the left hand as the reloading steps are as follows:
- RIght hand press mag release
- Left hand take out empty mag
- Left hand insert new mag
Meanwhile, Right hand remains at pistol grip
So, after inserting new mag with left hand, it is logically faster that the left hand now operate the charging handle. In fact, most HK weapons even put the charging handle forward of the magazine so that it makes it more stable process while the right hand holds the pistol grip.
But for the M16, it would be very awkward to hold the pistol grip and co.ck as the grip and charging handle are so close together at the rear. So, inevitably, after putting in the new mag you have to change hand and use the right to co.ck.
But for me, a HK forward left co.cking weapon will be unfamiliar at first.
In the past, nearly ALL bolt-action rifles were right hand co.cking. Left-handed people now bi.tch about things not being built for them etc but with bolt-action, no left-handedness was entertained. The bolt charging handle was on the left side, period. Loading the rounds into the weapon was usually also from the left without exception. -
For the SAR21, from a Rightie POV, its definitely more convenient to cock using the left hand. As for Lefties, you are still able to cock from the right, with your master hand firmly on the pistol grip as the charging handle is a plastic piece that you may swivel left/right. Not sure if the SAR21s have mod.enhancements to move the ejection port to the left for the lefties as I don't figure anyone would want to get a load of hot brass in their face/shirt. Yes, I do have and use sidearms... My preference depends on the mission and my loadup! ... for normal carry , I use a GLock 33 in 357 SIG, or CZ-75 P01 ... for competition I use a customized 1911 and a GLock 35 in 40 caliber..for deep conceal or summer conceal carry I carry a Kahr Mk9.. somtimes I carry a Russian Makarov or Czech CZ82
My favourite is still the classic like a CZ-75 and 1911.. liked the SIG228-229 series also!PLastic gun has come to its play but I still like the feel of the old classic!
personally I like long guns more than pistol...

SAR21 can use Left/Right Hand.
Only 2 things bad :
1) If you fire, from the right (left handed) You will keep seeing the catridge ejected out (distraction)
2) If there's a chamber explosion, the kevlar plate (on the other side) will channel the full impact into your face, jaw and probably head, neck and upper torso as well.

3) One minor gao wei thing, the trigger grip has a notch for the righthanded user's right thumb so left handed will hate it..... -

As in if you have to open port for inspection on the parade square. Forget about left handers for now cos PARADE SQUARE don't entertain left-handedness etc.

I can buy 2 guns every month with my SG salary, AFTER paying for utility, water bills, food etc and the like...
Dave, is US salary lower than that of a singaporean's salary for a same job with same qualifications? -

Well! I buy sell and trade my firearms constantly.... infact we made quite a killing during the Klinton era whereby there is a ban on assualt rifle! which we know the assualt ban was a joke!.... it only bring the price up and nothing else!!
