  should saving private ryan happened to any family in singapore, not only would it create a major hooha (with or without the controlled press), it will be an extremely bad publicity not only for the saf, but perhaps the pap government.

  parents? how did parents have a say of how an army should be run?
  
  the day the SAF bows out to parental pressure would be the weakest day of the SAF in history.
  
  accidents happen. in the course of duty, its an acceptable fact. you can get killed just driving ur rations to pck. if the SAF says training (in any part of the world) is a duty, its a duty.
  
  what should not happen is negligence.
