i think it certainly open to Singaporean to question our role with Taiwan. Of course there is a tendency to say lets pull out before we burn our hands.Originally posted by justdoit77:year 2007 & 2008 is full of risk in Taiwan. war can happen anytime between taiwan and mainland china. I think singapore better find another place for military training. shouldn't stay at taiwan. If not when war happen, don't know how many more missiles and aeroplane will drop from the sky.
shit happen.Originally posted by Yaimster:How on earth did our military send people to get killed?
It's not Iraq, it's Taiwan.
Last time i checked, no air force crashes their planes into their own bases intentionally.Originally posted by Yaimster:How on earth did our military send people to get killed?

Overseas Chinese have often been pivotal in the future of China herself.Originally posted by Arapahoe:i think it certainly open to Singaporean to question our role with Taiwan. Of course there is a tendency to say lets pull out before we burn our hands.
but of course there are implication especially from a history perspective, geopolitical reason and most importantly also being the role of oversea Chinese. Oversea chinese contributed money to support Sun Yat Szen to over throw Qing dynasty, Oversea Chinese contributing money back to China to fight against Japanese occupation in China. And oversea Chinese struggle against Chinese communist influence in the 60s.
So a lot have to ask our role in historical perspective. Although I am not sure the young generation understand all that. But it will be interesting to see what direction our leader and people will take.
Why don't you start blaming LTA each time a vehicle accident happens on our roads. Its an accident. Can't really fault anybody.Originally posted by Yaimster:How on earth did our military send people to get killed?

It's odd though, never knew we have people training in F5s in taiwan.
I am sure mainland china treasure Sun Yat Szen more than Taiwan on his contribution to the nation. The Chen Shui Bian government even took down Sun and Jiang's painting and statue from the government office.Originally posted by Arapahoe:i think it certainly open to Singaporean to question our role with Taiwan. i sneak this dialog on the china bashing forum but i think SG gov is looking at china with consideration. So at this "moment" looking at preserving the status quo of 1 country 2 systems create stabilities in the region.Originally posted by justdoit77:I am sure mainland china treasure Sun Yat Szen more than Taiwan on his contribution to the nation. Sad to say, from what I can see based on singapore government's action in the past, they don't really like to see Taiwan & China to be united together.
So, better do the training at countries like australia, new zealand all this.
... To me, their value is in the hopes that they will clear the pilots of error.
I also want to give my personal take on the incident. I saw the jet in its final moments. The pilots had time to eject. They chose not to. Instead, they flew their aircraft into the ground on the base, thus sparing countless hundreds of lives in the crowded Hukou area that would have been lost in the crash and subsequent explosion.
When I look at the photos of 5371, I see 2 heroes in the cockpit....
