New Rifle By Magpul

Looks like Magpul is putting alot in their product design! They suppose to redesign a piston based M16 but finally decided to redesign the entire rifle .... having a quick change barrel like the AUG, using the AR18 type bolt and carrier system and I have seen the Shotshow video that it uses the same fire control system of the M16 . looks like a very promising design.

Is the co.cking handle left-sided only or ambidextrous?
After using only the M16, it'll be quite unusual at first to co.ck with my left hand.
Actually, I discovered that all H&K weapons are left co.cking.

NO price as of yet!.... but I vaguely remeber hearing from one of the shotshow discussion that the rifle will be retial at about $1500! Planned to be release in 1st quarter of 2008! with how Magpul doing their project , the 1st quater next year looks pretty good...
Yes! Charging handle is left or right hand.... I do prefer to charge my weapon with my left just like the L1A1 and the AUG. did not like the right hand like the Galil or AK becasue I have to leave my shooting hand to charge the handle or do a awkward movement of tilting the rifle so my left hand can get to it! SOme Spetznez actually use the left hand, go under the mag and onto the charging handle to charge an AK!... not to ergonomic for a right hander! ... just my 2 cents!
I like the idea of ability to change out the barrel easily! thus giving you the flexibility of mission specific rifle... and the folding stock is quite ingenious !even a space for spare battery compartment.

if it's one of those "better M-16" aka M-16 clone, then where's the tube for the buffer spring with the folding stock?

From the images contained in the PDF file that Dave linked to above, it appears the bolt, bolt carrier and recoil spring are one integral unit contained entirely within the upper receiver. the buttstock looks like the XM8! the gas system is quite similar to the XM8 which is basically a G36 system.. which inturns uses the AR18 bolt and piston system.
the good thing about the MAsada is thaat the lower trigger group is the M16 trigger system! do not know the trip sear area and for civilian here in US thAT owns a Full auto registered drop in auto sear , there muight be a chance to get it to work! that have to be verified.
The basic design looks sound and promising ! judgeing what Magpul is producing I am very confident we will have a good product and price will be reasoable!
