Care to share why you don't frequently use 30 rounders? Haha...isn't it what everybody wants big mag...high cap.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Pretty impressive!
I wonder if they make those mags in 10 and 20-round versions, as I seldom if ever use 30-round mags in my ARs.
Well, most of the time, I shoot my ARs off a benchrest, and I like to hunker down and keep the rifle as close to the surface of the rest as possible for stability. A 30-round magazine is too tall, and forces me to raise the rifle higher off the rest.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Care to share why you don't frequently use 30 rounders? more like the spring.Originally posted by mancha:In the Vietnam War, the frequent cause of failure of the M16, was in fact magazine failure.
Rounds loaded into the magazine and kept there for prolong period causes the spring to stick, and this results in uneven feed.
Another reason for magazine failure in that era, using magazines as a bottle cap opener.
That aside, the quality of a magazine is not dependent on the strength of the casing.
the SBO i got from D&G soldiertalk holds 30 rounders perfectly...Originally posted by davechng:Hmmm! 20 rders! those are pretty old ! i remeber seeing them when I was with 5 SIR and they have a few of those COlt made 20 rders ! are those COlt mags you are issued???

Maybe they just throw some old stocks at u guys lor.Originally posted by moca:OK, I've posted a pic of my SBO (modelled by my GF 2 years ago) on the right, next to that of a pic of a Cdo I found on the net for comparison.
From the pics, it is hard to tell that my SBO on the right is a 20rd.
But the empty space on the webbing where I drew a red box, is where the longer 30rd pounch would reach down to.
The SBO is in SG and I'm in SH so I don't remember correctly, but I think it also had less pouches for grenades than the standard 30rd SBO. As you can see the 30rd mag arrangement is mag pouch, grenade pouch, mag pouch on each side. Mine was like 3 x mag pouches on the left side and 2 x mag pouches plus 2 x grenade pouches on the right.
My deduction was that originally 2PDF was to be strictly coastal defence. Where firing the weapon from a sandbagged position with a 20rd mag would be perfect.
But every ICT we were training for FIBUA and FOFO assault. Only did one defence ex. But all our live firings were still conducted towards the sea against amphibious landings.
But the point is, the SBO are the new type (then) and brand spanking new when issued to us.. Why they would specially make a new batch of SBO to fit old mags?Originally posted by ktk:Maybe they just throw some old stocks at u guys lor.
the ones i saw at beach road are all 30 rounders.
bloody mess in logistics indeed!
btw do they wobble alot? the SBO's.
LBV's, i took to airsoft game , damn hot .
hmm, from the pics , it too looks new to me.Originally posted by moca:But the point is, the SBO are the new type (then) and brand spanking new when issued to us.. Why they would specially make a new batch of SBO to fit old mags?
And like I said, most of the 20rd mags aren't old.
What I've got is a rare item only for 2PDF, you can't buy at Beach Road.
