...Similarly, the Formidable-class frigates will act as the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) 'mobile ops centre' out at sea. With a span of influence that stretches up to about 200 miles, it receives information from sister ships and aerial assets deployed within the range. It will then make sense of the pieces of puzzle, establish an accurate picture of the area of operations and send the information back to shore and to its Army and Air Force counterparts.
In the past, Missile Corvettes and Landing Ships Tank were the platforms tasked to house the command team out at sea, but faced with limited connectivity, it was difficult to manage information flow and to establish as many links..

Well the Frigate is an excellent addition to the RSN.
Who knows in the future if we get one destroyer as the Flagship of the fleet.
For those people who are selected to serve on our seven new Frigates....mann they are very lucky guys.
Oh by the way.....at what rank do people command such a ship. But it'll be funny that a Colonel commands the ship and the people onboard call him Captain of the ship. -

A USN CAPT is equivalent to an Army Colonel.
It's just that we are using army ranks for the navy.

i wonder if using the stealth frigate as an op center could result in excessive EM emission thus compromising the frigate stealth features.
my concern is the EM emission level of an OP center... -
It's not really a "stealth" frigate. It just has lower radar aspect or whatever you term that. Stealth hints like it's invisible which is never what it's meant to do.
You must however look into that fact that -if- one frigate acts like an op centre, then it will be in safer waters while the rest of the sensors are closer to the front transmitting info back. -

RSS Formidable plays central role in annual Singapore-US exercise
SINGAPORE : Singapore's newest high-tech warship is taking part in its first military exercise.
The RSS Formidable was commissioned two months ago and plays a key part in the annual Singapore-US CARAT exercise.
The vessel is the first stealth frigate in the Singapore Navy.
It is designed to be the centre of military sea operations and has been described as the most advanced warship in the region.
Colonel Wellman Wan, Commander, 1st Flotilla, Singapore Navy, said: "What it brings to the whole CARAT exercise is (that) it levels the whole exercise one notch up, purely because of the capability the ship brings to the exercise.
"She is a ship with good capabilities in air defence, underwater warfare and surface warfare and again, with the introduction of aviation, we should see quite interesting new areas of engagement with the US Navy."
The ship is the first of six frigates coming into service over the next two years.
RSS Formidable is the command and control centre for both navies at sea during the exercises.
And for the first time, the frigate will be using a navy helicopter for anti-surface and anti-submarine exercises.
The helicopter being used is similar to the Sikorsky naval helicopters ordered by the Singapore Navy.
Using it in the exercise will allow the Navy to assess the helicopter and the frigate before the Sikorsky helicopters arrive in the next three years.
The annual Cooperation Afloat and Readiness and Training, or CARAT, exercise will involve land, sea and air elements from both countries for two weeks. - CNA/ch -

Read from the internet that RSS Formidable will be participate in EX Malabar 2007. It would be interesting to see what role would the frigate undertake.
Would this be the largerest Naval excerise that RSN is involved? At least 2 carriers.
NEW DELHI: India will hold its biggest naval exercise with the U.S., Japan, Australia and Singapore in the Bay of Bengal in September this year, senior security officials here said on Wednesday.
The last exercise of such magnitude took place in 2005 when the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Nimitz and INS Viraat participated in the annual bilateral exercise “Malabar.” -

Probably going to test and see how "small" their fishing boat is against the radar of other people. Seriously, stealth is "stealth" until proven otherwise.
This exercise will probably confirm or destroy the actualy radar reduction capabilites of the frigate. -
The ship is probably far more capable than what we can see.
