Does the mighty SAF have any weaknesses?

As much as every other red-blooded SIngaporean, I think very highly of SAF.
But let's put pride aside for a moment and examine what are our weaknesses?
It could be equipment, tactics, morale, racial integration, battle experience, guile etc... Or even our attitude - which can often win or lose a war. -
do you think anyone will tell you any classified information in a public forum? -
"if I fight finish this war, will I get make up pay? Still need to go annual ippt or not?

if i were you i would say .... the well trained and better equip SAF.
i say if there are any weakness its the NS. -

Actually, as far as being "well-trained", some units are better trained than others. Just like any other army.
NS is a strength and a weakness, I feel. The strength is that it gives us the numerical superiority.
But WW2 Japanese invasion showed us that a smaller, but battle-hardened and motivated force, can do wonders. -

The men. Us.
It's one thing when it's ICT, it's another when real rounds start flying, people start dying, burning, screaming and leaking blood.
That's the weakness. The tools and machinery can never fail.
Only hearts and minds. -

they all have the same feeling. heck thats why the sergeant keep pushing everyone to the edge of their insanity..... but when theres war the training didnt actually kick in automatically. You will ses symptoms like nausea, vomiting or blank staring after the baptism of fire. It is said that those symptom are normal and only small percentage of soldier cant recover at all and goes sect 8.
there is no doubt (if the soldier are well trained) that those same soldier that vomiting will become great officers and soldier.
my concern is the officers. SAF officers, how would you think they will conduct under fire? what happen when all the gadget that SAF officers and soldier rely on suddenly down? does that hamper the innitiative? [/code] -
Dont worry about chain of command. As long as we follow who's incharge it's okay.
That's what field promotions are for.
The rifle and rounds in your hands are still there even if all else fails. -

yes- uninspired leadership in all spheres- just because they threatened us with SAND, our leaders collapse and quickly sign a document giving away our sovereignity. With this attitude, there is no need to wayang with the SAF. People can see you've got no balls to fight, whatever hardware you possess. Pui....

Ever wonder why there are service centers for Cars/Computers.
For me. Greatest Weakness in SAF will be Complacency.
After awhile, Over confidence in the system/equipment arise, and Tactic sense goes out of the window. (A country experienced such situation in a 2006 conflict, they had the best Airforce in the region, One of the Best Armour, Top Notch Navy, but fail to achieve the Mission they set out to do.) -

Actually, I think this may not be the case. so far they have demonstrated that they are the most kiasu in the world when it comes to National Defence. On paper at least, Singapore must be the most heavily defended place on earth. I do feel that we rely too much on technology and equipment but at the same time, I feel there is no other solution as there are no wars to tune the tactics and minds of the SAF. Excercises are after, all, not real life. -

And i'm very sure that complacency and confidence in what you have a thin line to thread.
What mission? If you talk about the "mexicans", you mustnt forget the situation in that region. It's a totally different thing. Besides, the only way to actually assess effectiveness of tactics is to indeed try them out. It's obvious that best airforce,armour and navy has little consequence in long drawn out warfare against a non political entity, ie terrorists.
What's your vocation btw? See if we can gleam more insights from your side of the SAF. -

I remember one case during or after the Konfrontasi when Indonesia asked for the return of 2 of their commandos captured in SG for bombing the MacDonald House or something.
We hung them instead. Fu.ck extradition...
