At lest the Railway station still look the same after all this time, unlike the rest of Singapore. -
the pillbox at pasir panjang around science park is still around today. it's just along the road, right next to shell station. can be seen clearly during the day. you can take a bus, drive or cycle there if you wanna.
the memorial at bukit batok hill is long gone. only the steps remain. and it's not about any grenade incident, the memorial with the cross is to recognise the allied war dead. on top of the hill was another to commemorate the japanese side war dead during the invasion of malaya/singapore. -
The photo seems to say East Coast Road. I think it was one of those along East Coast Road, when East Coast Road was still a coastal road. Otherwise it could refer to the Kota Tinggi Road which runs along the east coast of south Johor. I tend towards our East Coast Road because it looks like a busy road, with something like Singapore local bus.

There's one more old tunnel possibly leading to a pillbox in Seletar East Camp. The old trapdoor leading down kinda rusted semi-ajar shut. Hard to pry open. Peered down with a flash light before, all I saw was a long ladder down..... dunno lead to where tho.
Perhaps with Mindef's permission, maybe can go on an expedition to see where that tunnel goes. We always joked that it lead to some pirated cd-store in Johore. Heh. -

That's partly because the railway station is owned by Malaysia. Remember the whole argument a couple of years back about Malaysian immigration CIQ checkpoints being based in their Singapore rail station rather than at Johor?Originally posted by Dr Who:

Drove past Science park 2 yesterday...Yup see the pillbox. It is similar to the ones I saw near Kota Tinggi in design but seems a little smaller. The one in the picture seems to be more like the size of those on Kota Tinggi. Maybe there ware some on Singapore East Coast Road last time but now gone already...

just beside of a narrow but quite busy road.
If i'm not mistaken there is another pillbox located within the perimeter of
RMN recruit training (PULAREK) near Kota Tinggi. -
There used to be quite a few pill boxes near old tenah merah 'PA beach resort'; also on sentosa near middle of swimming area (still there?). Most were still around till early 80's when many were removed to widen roads and as eyesores. Example on Tekong Camp used as showpiece is very sad example.
Met School of Engineer Instructors (and heard form them) were involved in the removal of some of the Changi Pill Boxes using explosives during Changi airport construction!!
The old pill box on East Coast road sounds possible match with the photo. Noticed the drain which crosses the road.
Also can remember the 'fort' on Tekong with its lookout tower and other bunkers etc. near present jetty. Spent night there with Commando instructors; during our overnight hike. Joined them as enemy simulators for their raid mission...

At P. Ubin Kampong Bahru also got tower and some bunkers.
I used to camp in Tekong as a kid.
Bloody haunted house up on the hill facing the sea. When low tide you can walk for miles out and catch hermit crabs. -

WEll, HAve any of you been to the other forst in Sentosa? Besides the well know Fort Siloso, There is also the preserved Fort Imbiah, The just recovered by NUS Fort Serapong and taken and destroyed by the Gold course's Fort Connaught?

Kota Tinggi complek or correctly "Pegarang fort" (sic). It had an AA battery, lookout towers plus protective pill boxes on hill ridgeline; lookout and ranging towers for the guns of Changi costal battery (so called johor battery) and intergrated with the other facilities on Tekong (Camp I and II) and P Sajahat (small island in between Tekong and Mainland). all part of the integrated defence for southern Malaya.
From top of Pegarang, you can see all the eastern approaches out to some 30km (depending on visability) and can easily spot shells for the 'johor' battery as defence of fortress Singapore, worth a visit if they allow you to climb the hill (not sure now bcause part of RMN training facility??) -

Behind the Naval Base is the observation hill you mentioned. See......they've got something up there........to look at Singapore?

IS the pill box found in Malaysia? I remember seeing something similar in Sentosa while taking the Monorail.
