not a real reconstruction right? Look to me like a big concrete cube with a tube attachedOriginally posted by idwar:WW2 Gun which was pointed at the wrong direction,

The last time i visited this area there was this gaping hole, (from some construction?) where u can peep in and see dark corridors and tunnels down, quite interesting, anyway the road access to the watchtowers on the hill is closed, too badOriginally posted by idwar:PILLBOX AT LABRADOR PARK, SINGAPORE
I totally agree. History (military or non-mil) is more real, and worth much more than words, pictures and history books if you can touch and feel it physically.Originally posted by FG42:There was a round shape watch tower along Fort Road but it was pulled down about 10 years ago.
i love exploring these pillboxes and I think we should try to keep them instead of making way for new construction.
They are beautiful and represents part of our history.
nope they aint naval guns. They were built for ground emplacement.Originally posted by OldBird69:I totally agree. History (military or non-mil) is more real, and worth much more than words, pictures and history books if you can touch and feel it physically.
Thanks for posting the pics everyone. I believe that's a naval 15 inch gun (the turret's at least 5-6 storey deep underground). Reminds me of the huge guns (16 inch x9) of the WWII Battleship USS Missouri in Pearl Harbor I visited 3 years ago.
This one look exactly like the ones on the road going to Kota Tinggi. I have never seen this design ones so far in Singapore.Originally posted by Dr Who:
Is this the pill-box outside Science Park 2 at Pasir Panjang Rd ?
Did it see any action in WW2?
it's just a replica.....put there just to show. And yes it's alittle short hah.Originally posted by Fingolfin_Noldor:Did they slice the barrel of that 15" gun or something? It's kinda short for a battleship grade gun.
yeah, I have seen lots of em too, i have seen anti aircraft batteries (unknown AA gun) on hillsOriginally posted by moca:Taiwan has a lot of these pill boxes dotting the coast. SOme of them are built into the cliff face above the road at about 2-storey high.
Most of them don't look like they are still in use.
What is the ROC soldiers guarding the coasts use are these concrete dwellings that may also have built-in bunkers.
I guess the real pill boxes are too uncomfortable and will only be used if war seems likely.
If I recall correctly, it was to do with a grenade not exploding... at the foot of a statue of Our Lady at the church at Bukit Timah or something.Originally posted by idwar:Japanese troops and POWs salute at Christian memorial at unknown site, believed to be near Bukit Batok, dated 15th June 1942. Anyone have any idea if this memorial is still around?
