Pistol more difficult to master than rifle?
Not necessarily. Generally, if you're comfortable shooting a rifle, you should already have most of the skills, like trigger control and sight picture acquisition, needed to be competent with a pistol.
However, one area where rifle shooters
might have difficulty in shooting a pistol, is in recoil control (and I've seen this happen with all new pistol shooters in general). With a rifle, most of the recoil impulse is absorbed by the shooter's shoulder, against which the buttstock is firmly wedged. With a pistol, the recoil pulse is absorbed entirely by shooter's arm, and most new pistol shooters initially develop a flinch which causes them to anticipate the recoil by pushing the pistol forward and down when they pull the trigger, resulting in shots printing low on the target. But the flinching does diminish as the shooter gradually becomes accustomed to the recoil characteristics.
Larger pistol calibers are more likely to cause flinching. In the case of the 9mm P226, however, the recoil is actually rather negligible.
