I would say that heavy urban fighting may be an effective solution to make it costly if the occupying PLA forces land. However, much we do not know about the will of the local populace or the Taiwanese Army to engage in bloody attrition warfare. It depends on whether their want for continued prosperity outweighs their desire to continue being in charge of their destiny.
An insurgency in Taipei will make Iraq look like a cake walk, and both sides will not benefit at all. -
Once the news spreads how the PLA is treating civilians and POWs alike, you will see a dramatic change to the Taiwanese.
Why you ask? The PLA sure aint going to bring party ribbons, cakes or pirated music discs over for sure. -

To many taiwanese, taiwan ish actually a 'country'. They have a national flag, national anthem. Own armed force.

Taiwan is in essence separate. It has everything that a country has except the legal definition of sovereignty.

I've been to ROC 3 times and each time I was there for about 3 weeks. Have spoken to many taiwanese. They all told me that Taiwan ish already a country and they dun need to declare independance at all wor.

ROC is indeed a country by itself. Maintain what it was before under KMT, there would be no problem. When they started getting rid of the "wai shen ren", that is when all Chinese have the right to bring them back to China. If it is PRC that was powerful enough to do it, then taiwan will come under PRC. If KMT under Ma ying jiu got elected again, that I think there will be no problem will any PRC invasion. -

i think so long there lack of creative political initiative by the PRC to provide for ROC to continue to exist politically, and that PLA perceived that the 2 societies are moving in irecocilation direction, with the increasing confident that PRC is taking over US economy, and there is an increasingly threat that the favor will till against ROC. I have ever hear chinese talking about airborne paradrop again i think they will eliminate Ah bien. reinforcement from the US will not be too sure as the economy will be so connected that I am not sure how the US is going to attack china or help Taiwan. PRC is holding tremendous US bond. The minutes they sell the bond in the market, US dollars are going to drop affect the global market economy. -
