Ipod saves Soldier's Life

My wifeÂ’s uncle works in a military hospital and told me about this. Its pretty amazing. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.
The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his IPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.
I thought it was a great story so I posted them here.
UPDATE 04.05.07:
I just got an email via flickr from an engineer at Apple. He showed the photos around the office and want to help get the guy a new iPod. So it's looking good that it will be replaced.

But if he's wearing an Interceptor vest decked out with the standard SAPI inserts, a chest strike as described in the story will certainly not penetrate his body armour.

Was watching One In A Million where they shot handphones with some gun (was it .22 LR) to see what was the chances of it preventing serious injury.
In 3/4 of the cases, the handphone prevented serious injury to the user (though he still would have gotten injured).
But I IPod saving the soldier's life is pretty moot... if he was wearing the standard issue Interceptor vest with all the regulation SAPI inserts (which he would be wearing given he was on a street patrol), that shot to the chest was certainly defeatable by the vest.
So his Ipod got fragged for nothing. -

there was a reporter whose handphone saved him from a shot as well, can't remember the details.
p.s: hp used to sell ipods, tie in with apple, in return they get to brand it. -
i read the current US vest can withstand up to an AK bullet, so yeah this US soldier probably trying to get a free ipod by emailing to everyone and misleading them

Luckily in US Army.
In Singapore Army.. i think when he goes back camp.. first thing RSM do is give him extra for bringining IPOD outfield.
