Phalcon no doubt is a generation ahead of E-2C’s radar because it’s phase arrayed. However because it’s a in long wavelength band like any other AEWs, so it’s good at “search” but not enough to “guide missile”, the Phalcon can guide fighters to the position, but eventually it still depends on the fighters’ own short wavelength Fire control radar to do the tracking of the enemy jets and finishing the killing.
I think 150nm datalink range is good enough for the phalcon plane to hide safely behind its escorting fighter jets from being hit by enemy long range AAM

Wait, correct me if I am wrong, but you don't need to "lock" on to the target to provide mid-course updates right? (eg from the AEWs or assisting platforms)
And does a phase array radar really require high-band radio frequencies to help lock? I figure they scan quick enough for the typically low bands to provide sufficient updates... -

ThatÂ’s why most fire control radar comes in X-band, but E-2C is in S band, and I think Phalcon is in L-band

It was covered less intensively in the press that the G550s had a major role in the Israeli fighting in Lebanon last year. Apparently, they starred in the conflict by supporting the war on on the ground, since they have a strong ground surveillance capability. The G550 is a complete 3-D C3IT platform. The Israelis named the G550 as one of those platforms that really worked during that conflict.

Radar range is > 200 Nm...vs E2C < 200 Nm. (Knn they want to hide info)
Nothing much was mentioned regarding Phalcon. (guess they dont want to reveal too much)
I got question.
Is it possible to have more than one type of radar band on board the same plane ie two radars.
Is it possible for the radar to switch bands/have two bands simultaneously. -

Four Gulfstream 550 - Airborne Early Warning (G550-AEW) will replace the RSAF's E-2C AEW.
The G550-AEW will enhance the creation of the RSAF's air situation picture and its identification capability as part of the networked air defence system. The new platforms will provide improved surveillance for the RSAF, and enhance Singapore's air defence capability.
The four G550-AEW will operate with the Air Defence and Operations Command (ADOC) during mission execution.
The G550-AEW is a business jet that has a long endurance of nine hours and can operate at an altitude of 41,000 feet, with a crew of eight, including two pilots.
The acquisition of the G550-AEW is part of the transformation of the 3rd Generation SAF.

It's more about the performance of the gulf plane = which is of no importance to the performance of it's radar. They say that to smoke people. -

I'm guessing DSTA took the Israeli code and modified it. Either that or there were security problems or tech transfer problems.
