And regarding the earplugs, once I forgot to put them on during my combat shoot... End up my ears were ringing for the entire afternoon... Not fun... Whoever said go range don't need earplugs is either bsing or shooting blanks there.

and worst still, my first zeroing, 3 bullets in very close to each other almost hitting the same spot, then the stupid M16 IA, then must take out the magazine and put back in and aim, fark, the last shot was so damm far away -
Zeroing your rifle is very important. It must be done right. Groupings at 100m of no larger than 6 inches is ok. You must also know where it falls, ie. left, or right, high or low. For larger groups, you must estimate its fall and compensate, and good luck.
In range shooting, its 90% for proper posture/comfort and 10% for proper aiming. And that for one shot. Each shot needs to taken independently, and applying the 90/10 rule again and again.
In aiming (M16) there are three points.
Point 1. The target.
Point 2. The Foresight tip.
Point 3. The Rearsight aperature.
Assuming you got all the nitty gritty details of aiming taken care off. And you are now looking through the rear sight at the target. Go, one two three.
One: the target should be clear (focused), the fore sight tip, blur, the rear sight aperature, blur. (remember you are looking through the rear sight aperature.)
Two: Bring the foresight tip to the target. Foresight tip now clear, target blur, rear sight, blur. Know the fall of your shots during the zeroing, and place the foresight tip accordingly on the target.
Three: Freezing the position of your fore sight tip against the target, micro adjust your your rifle so that the forsight tip is at the centre of the rear sight aperature.
Finally give a quick one two three, (target, foresight tip, rearsight aperature in position), fire!
Of course you don't have all the time in the world to shoot like that. Therefore in you spare time practice dry runs of the one two three system.
One two three, align the sights against the target and fire.
Remember if you are comfortable and adopt the correct posture, you most likely to hit the target. This is range shooting not combat shooting. So pay attention to the nitty gritty and win your marksmanship award. -

any tips for SAW? I admit im not very consistent with that weapon.

I find live firing a really personal kind of training. Much like playing golf. You have to battle yourself and its really an 'understanding' approach to it. It starts from the very beginning at the zeroing stage. Thats when you get to know your particular M16. Remember to be consistent in your approach during zeroing or its meaningless. I wouldn't stop zeroing until i get a really small group of shots. Once you've got it down to a small group, then you're confident the rife will fire the way you aimed. No more doubts later that will ruin your weekend.
Consistency is very important and stay calm. Use a methological approach of self-learning. Even during the close range shots, you should already be understanding your weapon. Don't just take it as the target is down, but notice where the shot lands and reflect after the shot if it was consistent to previous shots.
Hold your breath. Always hold your breath just before you take the shot. This will take away the little movements.
I like to find the best way to secure the rifle as much as possible. I always make sure my left forarm is touching the magazine itself. This way, you can limit the twisting of the rifle to the left.
Squeeze the trigger as slowly as possible. Feel the first click and let the actual fire scare you. (Someone already rightly pointed this point) I think its very effective. Especially at the 300m.
Follow through. This is very important. I make it a point to hold my position for that extra second after the shot is fired. Its like slow motion and my reaction alittle retarded, but it works.
