The Iranians are after all Persians and neither of them( the arabs) have any love for each other.
Heck the arab league are trying their best to curb Iran's influence in the reigon.Different religous sects remember?

I'm just saying that using the fact that Iran may "potentially be able to build a bomb" to attack them is a silly excuse and we shouldn't swallow everything US/UK feed us.

Unfortunately when it comes to Iran it is difficult to figure out what they really mean.
1) They have threatened to "wipe Israel off the map".
2) The nuclear technology they are pushing for is dual purpose.
3) The regime isn't exactly subject to the checks and balances of its people, nor exactly friendly to the rest of the world.
4) They way power is understood in that region is that it comes from the sword.
5) Do you think they would really follow the NPT, or give in to the temptation to secretly go nuclear if they had the means?
Unfortunately when it comes to Middle Eastern politics, there are never any clear cut answers, especially when it comes to dealing with the difficult countries.
While the way some Western powers go about it leave much to be desired, I wonder if simply letting the region run itself is exactly the best thing to do. While the Ang Mors screw a lot of things up, it would be unhelpful to pin them down as the source of all the world's problems.
Let's just say that we allow the ME to run itself... Given their track record, I wonder if the world today would really be a safer place... or would we be seeing mushroom clouds in that region and beyond?
I wonder.
If anybody has a better solution, I'm all up for it.
Though lets not forget NK... them going nuclear is a BIG problem for everyone. -

If I am US Commander I will use Israel as a temporary airbase. Degio Garcia can only handle the B52s, US can only send B1 Lancers and B2 Spirit. they still need other aircraft like the F117A for specific targets. The carrier in the gulf is VERY VERY vunerable to shore-to-sea launched missles... If a carrier is sunk...
And Iran has many "silkworm" missles. -
I think if you want to start a war with Iran you want to contain the war within Iran not to spread fight into a regional war. Use Israel would inflame other Arab nations. If there is an attack, there will be denials of Israeli involvement. Perhaps painting of targets and intel may be provided by the Israelis, but nothing more.

If you were Iranian, sitting on oil fields - with 2 agressive vehemently anti-Iran western powers now living next door in Iraq - you'd want a nuclear bomb, too, wouldn't you?

They've invaded and occupied Iraq based on some flimsy excuse and look set to stay.
It's not that difficult for Iranians to imagine that they are the next domino to fall.

As for why US is in Iraq, ironically i have never believe WMD was the reason, Oil is not the reason. However its decision to pull out became a oil supply concern.

This is the longer-term threat. The rise of fundamentalist Islam in the Middle East and Central Asia, driven by ideologies that desire to carve out a Khalifa along the entire Indian Ocean rim. -

The B2 can probably fly from USA, drop their bomb and fly back if they want to. They maybe flying over Iran now and Iran may not even know it.
In terms of air superiority, USA is Numero Uno in a different league altogether. Probably in a couple of days the air over Iran will be the US.
They can probably stage bases in Iraq then. A quick and short flight and you can even stage A-10s and AH-64 there. The F-22 also will their chance to prove their battle-worthiness although I suspect majority of the work will be done by UAVs.
Don't think US want to conquer Iran, probably just install a more favorable government. Frankly, if war occurs, without any oil coming out, US will suffer but the Iran will the one that gets bankrupt. With all the capital flight and no oil revenue, I think iran will more or less collapse.
But, that is if War happens. -
If it does happen.. looking at the insurgency tactics in Iraq which are successful to a certain extent..
i think the iranians will dig deep. if it really does happen..

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says 15 British naval personnel captured in the Gulf are free to leave.
He repeated allegations that the British sailors and marines "invaded" Iranian waters, but said they were being released as a "gift" to Britain.
He said they would be taken to Tehran airport and flown home within hours. -
