I kinda agree that camouflage is still the greatest importance not differentialtion.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I think if your cammies look alike is not really going to matter much in the fog of war.
Of course having greatly different cammies help, but then again I think doing it simply for helping to tell friend from foe probably isn't factored in that much when choosing what to wear... how well it hides you and how well it works as a field uniform are probably higher considerations.
I 100% don't understand the mozzie part..Originally posted by Rockhound:yala..new uniforms require sewing..very sian for ppl with loadsa badges..
i am quite against the mozzie proof idea...
mozzies evolve fast u noe..
so wat happens if a soldier is in garrison wear in an overseas camp?..
anywaes...i see it as SAFs stingy way of cutting back costs...
onli singapore used the old meloprim tablets in the world..
even sri lanka used a much more costlier but better malaria pill...
meloprim caused a death or 2...not good for the liver as wat my MO used to say..
when i orded in feb..they were using mefloquine instead...
It makes 100% sense!!!Originally posted by chanjyj:I 100% don't understand the mozzie part..
Normal No. 4 is already mozzie proof. How can mosquito get thru the cloth?
Even if can get thru the cloth, in the future, the mosquito cannot get thru the cloth due to it being "mozzie proof", don't you have exposed areas like your face, neck, hands? It only reduces the chances of getting bitten, unlike the pill which is more to the side of an immunization dunno how to express it)
and in the future if the camo got some mozzie proof netting it may get hotter. Not good. not good.
this one I never experience before. Which is your uniform type?Originally posted by moca:It makes 100% sense!!!
Any old bird will tell you that mosquitoes can totally bite you through the uniform.
Example when you squat down, your pants will be pulled tight against some parts of your thigh. Meaning there are no loose space between the fabric and your flesh, THat's whn our "commando" mosquitoes can bit through.
Exposed areas like the hands, neck and face you can apply repellent. But you can't apply repellent all over your body, can you?
That's why uniform or no new uniform, I think the pills should still be issued just in case. The mosquitos seem immune to my repellent last time Maybe they have also changed the repellent formula.Originally posted by moca:It makes 100% sense!!!

You have obviously not gone to some parts of Area D my friend. Thank your lucky stars. They don't called them "commando trained mosquitoes" for nothing.Originally posted by chanjyj:That's why uniform or no new uniform, I think the pills should still be issued just in case. Is yours with the shirt pockets sloping slightly toward the centre, or is your pockets straight
they contain DEET dah.Originally posted by insouciant:You have obviously not gone to some parts of Area D my friend. Thank your lucky stars. They don't called them "commando trained mosquitoes" for nothing.
I find the repellent formula in the green tubes pretty effective. More effective than and commercial spray on.
I don't know. My mosquitos go thru BOTH commercial AND army repellentOriginally posted by insouciant:You have obviously not gone to some parts of Area D my friend. Thank your lucky stars. They don't called them "commando trained mosquitoes" for nothing.

Got, I used to wear them (Dunno if they are the first batch or not). Sorry no pics.. (I threw em away, they were too old). The uniform had BROWN velcro (at the back of the shirt) instead of the GREEN velcro you use now.Originally posted by moca:hahaha...
I think maybe I explained in a too complicated way. Now I read it even I myself don't understand what I wrote...
Basically, what I am saying is that any part of your uniform that is wrapped tight against your flesh, the mozzie can bite through.
And I don't recall any of my uniforms having slanted pockets.
The first batch of SAF camo that fades and very thick was quite good at preventing bites. But they also give you heat stroke.
We may have two forms of digital camo. One for urban+desert(possibly more future overseas peacekeeping duties in the ME) and the other for jungle.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:The grey ACU scheme is more of a multicam fit-all solution for camo... works in all environments but does not excel at any as you get from your more environment-specific digital cam. Given the need for the Yanks to rapidly deploy like everywhere... a multicam approach works better for them.
I think we'll probably take a more jungle-centric camo scheme. But then again given the emphasis on FIBUA...
As per now. The crew who went to Iraq were issued sand colored flight suits.Originally posted by acwire_2125:Well, what he said might be true. The one for Jungle may be issued to all troops while the one for city/desert be isued to specific groups of soliders.
I will be super lazy to switch between the 2... imagine you are infantry, using jungle camo then got to secure a town, then.... your green camo... must change....Originally posted by tankfanatic:two type? aiyo....
just make one camo scheme on one side of the clothes ma...Originally posted by chanjyj:I will be super lazy to switch between the 2... imagine you are infantry, using jungle camo then got to secure a town, then.... your green camo... must change....
