Question on M16

I'm curious, can somebody educate this on me. Lets say I've locked and loaded an M16, the dust cover over the ejection port will be open.But say, I close the dust cover, with a round in the chamber, and i fire off, be it in SEMI or AUTO, will the weapon still be fired?

Yes it'll still fire...
When the bolt-carrier moves backward to pick-up another round from the mag, it'll automatically move a latch of the dust cover to make it open so as the expended round can come out.. -

when i did technical handling, they didn't say cannot close dust cover with the danger of exploding. in fact they wanted us to close dust cover whenever we finish stripping the damn rifle. -
the moment the bolt moves across the dust cover area, it will pop out.
When the round is fired, the bolt will be pushed back. Even if the cover is up. the moment the bolt moves backwards, the dust cover will flip open then the round is ejected out. Anyway, chamber explosion is not because of this.
If you never handle the m16 yet why worry?
I thought nowadays all the new recruits only touch the sar21 now? Lucky people then can play with the m203/m16.

since the run can't be discharge, the gun powder within the round will cause an explosion? -
Definitely possible to co.ck and then close dust cover. I used to do it all the time. In fact, it is highly advised to close your dust cover after cocking to make sure less dirt get into the mechanism.
Do you think Eugene Stoner would design a dust cover that will cause explosions? -
the dust cover only closes with a soft latch. just a finger nail can open it liao. so definitely no problem in expending the empty rounds.

chamber explosion as the name states..is the round explode inside the chamber IE outside the barrel. This happens when the bolt got problem and cannot lock in place when it "chambers a round in" ...so the explosion blows backwards into your face instead of forcing out the projectile through the barrel(bigger hole short distance).
Another reason can also be the firing pin is too long and detonate the primer(fuse cap) before the round is completely inside the barrel area.
It's quite rare lah...You kenna means you very sway and can mean needing comestic surgery to look like Andy Lau liaoz. -
1.m16 loaded and ready.
2.dust cover closed.
3.trigger pressed
4.projectile flies out through the barrel
5.as the projectile flies out, the bolt carrier moves backwards and dust cover opens.
6.empty cartridge gets ejected out through the open dust cover
7.new round is loaded into chamber as bolt carrier slides back to original position.
8.dust cover still open. -

all it needs is for the bolt to move abit then the dust cover open liao.Like when u half or even less c o c k your weapon it pops open.
