MY army 6 units of light recce heli A-109 LOH will be operation from next year..
Details of arms is not known.
MY army considers new anti tank gun .Also tracked and wheel self prop guns
are considered.
In December 2005 AgustaWestland started delivering A109 LOH helicopters to the Malaysian Army and deliveries will continue through 2006. The primary purpose of the LOH is to serve as a cost efficient system for observation, reconnaissance, tactical transport and area suppression missions. The Malaysian Army Aviation is the first operator of the A109 LOH in Asia....

Actually I'm not surprised of the A109s being armed, whereas I WOULD BE surprised if they ARE UNARMED!
Come to think of it, it is a 'natural progression' & good learning curve of any air arm that wishes to have a dedicated attack helicopter (eg, the Rooviak) in future.
Back to the topic, I believe the decision to push arming the A109 is indirectly attributed to the Leo2s that the SAF is procuring, even though the MAF high echelon has been politically-correct to deny there's a de facto mini-arms race in SEA now.
Well, the MAF definitely, & understandably, want to address the 'gap' in attack helo category vis-a-vis the RSAF Apaches.

those A109s were meant to be armed way before the Leo's procurement. -

But hey, it's not secret that there's an arms race of sorts between us... but it's not really of the overtly hostile kind. More like we are trying to maintain a form of parity that will keep the military card more or less the way it was. A true arms race will be marked by a lot more significant spending. -
I wont be surprised if they equip missiles though. They can always do it secretly. They have plenty of land attack missiles. Dont under estimate them.

a south african engineer told me that the LOH were rig to be armed with various type of anti tank missile in south africa. They already tested it there. as to why in south africa dont ask me.
also he said the army air wing were already using 6 unit of Roivalk. The reason its didnt came out anywhere in the paper is because they leased it using a forward company. they have been training with it ever since.

no. i won't put my money in either.
the MAF's A109s are designated as Light Observation Helicopter.
"Light" as in lightly armed, short distance, avionics, counter measures etc etc.
befitting their role as "Observation" i.e. to observe or in other words "eye ball only"

and i won't put my money on the rooivalk being in MAF service either. they're not worth engaging in cloak and dagger with the treasurer. -

I love the M113 ADV. American platform, Israeli/German FCR suite and Russian SAMs. -
hope they improve that radar on top of the M113, the current looks like a garbage can found along HDB flats lift.
