Indonesia have Nuclear warheads?

Indonesia is currently undertaking an ambitious nuclear power plant construction programme to meet its growing energy needs, with the help of the Japanese. While the perceived goal of the program is to eventually build 12 nuclear power production facilities, current planning calls for construction to commence on the first plant by 2010, with operational capability to be achieved by 2016.

With all the uranium they can get, they may have nuclear weapon like their brother Iran.

Well it takes considerable technical ability to create a nuke, one needs to get weapons grade material from their reactors (already sort of tricky), and figure out the physics package as well. It's hard for all these things not to be sniffed out by the CIA and the like...

And then they have to test it to make sure it works... all in all it seems to me that having nukes is worse for the Indons then anybody else.

Dont think they will pursue N warheads. Im wondering how are they going to afford to maintain the reactors while much other aspects of their country aren't very good.

Aussieland will make A LOT of noise if indon has N warheads anyway.

Hey, I don't think the Aussies will be the only one to protest... basically any country that is not Indonesia in the region will have a bone to pick.

And I don't think the resulting economic instability from the political and economic fallout from having nukes is really good for the ruling regime.

I'm more worried abt accidents occur at one of those plants, than them having a N-warhead. With so much corruption, $ supposed to use for training & maintenances may ended up in pockets.
Any accident will directly or indirectly affect the entire SEA region.

Instead of worrying, we can be more proactive...we pre-empt them...get our nuclear reactor running before theirs goes online... Cool

After all if a large country like Indonesia which have both oil and gas needs to get nuclear power, its only natural to assume that a tiny country with no natural resources like Singapore will eventually need such source of power. Its just a matter of when and how.

The price of fossil fuel is not going down but will only increase further due to increasing demand from fast developing countries (eg China and India) and dwindling supplies.

From what I read online, enriching uranium for nuclear power plant (< 20% 235U) and for weapons-grade content (> 85% 235U) are very different paths in the last stages (they are similar in the early stages). Weapons-grade requires much more specialised tools which can sometimes be monitored (unless they buy from "rogue states" like N. Korea). Having light water nuclear reactors does NOT = Having nuclear weapons. That is why there are a lot more counties with nuclear power plants than countries with nuclear weapons.

I am wondering why isn't Malaysia raising a rackus? If Indon can build it, I think Sinkapoore shld also build one. So long we not the first one to build - build one at P.Seraya. Otherwise how can power 6.5m ppl?

I think Malaysia shld raise voice - not only there are worries about mgt, treatment of wastes, also Indon is in the earthquake belt...what if earthquake / tsunami strike? we will be fried like frogs in Chernobyl....
