1. Fith gen OLS UEM and OLS UM infra red search and track . one on the nose and two under its belly.
2. replacing cockpit HUD with 2 large AMLCD
3. Irbis-E X band Active phased array radar
4. towed radar decoy system
5. stand off weapon system. -
its malaysian pilot ... i saw him exiting the AC and being interview by the reporters

so, did they flash u their ID? for all u know, they look brown enough for a malaysian but deep inside, they could be half cooked russkies. LOL.
from what i read, LIMA 07 seemed a bit jaded, if u know what i mean. no big ticket purchases. the masses love big tickets. MY government should play a bit with the cards. this'll keep the exhibitors happy and wanted to come back in future. and provide enough thrill to the public on new toys. -

the pilot are Lt Col Nor Azlan Aris and Major Azman Jantan from Skuadron 11 .....please dude i know a malay when i see one. LOL -

India to train Malaysian Air Force pilots
New Delhi, Jan 4 - The training in India of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilots and the regional and global situation will feature high on the agenda during Defence Minister A.K. Antony's three-day trip to Malaysia from Sunday.
India and Malaysia last month signed a protocol on training of RMAF pilots on their Sukhoi Su-30MKM aircraft by the Indian Air Force (IAF), which operates the MKI version of the jet. There are a number of similarities between the two fighters that Russia is custom-building for both countries.
'This protocol has to be taken forward and will be one of the issues Antony will discuss with Malaysian leaders,' the official said.
The protocol builds on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) signed in May 2007 with the Malaysian defence ministry for the technical training of RMAF personnel on Su-30MKM aircraft.
A high-level delegation including Defence Secretary Vijay Singh, Advisor Sundaram Krishna, Indian Army deputy chief Lt. Gen. Z.U. Shah, Indian Air Force deputy chief Air Marshal N.A.K. Browne, principal staff officer at naval headquarters, Vice Admiral K.N. Sushil and Joint Secretary (South) external affairs ministry Biren Nanda will accompany Antony.
Antony will hold detailed discussions with his Malaysian counterpart and Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Najib Bin Tun Hajiabdul Razak and Foreign Minister Ahmed Syed Hamid Albar.
Antony will also visit Penang, where he will meet Governor Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Abbas. -

Russian fighters to use Thales Damocles targeting pods

Russia will license-produce the Thales Damocles reconnaissance and target designation pod for its air force strike aircraft, following successful tests of the system with Malaysia's Sukhoi Su-30MKM multirole fighter.
Made late last year, the decision will see Damocles become the first piece of Western equipment approved for integration with Russia's combat aircraft, and the first to be produced locally under an official licence with the system's developer.
Comparative trials involving Damocles and the Ural Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ)-produced Sapsan and Solux targeting pods went in favour of the French design.
UOMZ received production approval from Thales in late 2007 and will now assemble a customised version of the system for the Russian market using locally written software. However, the company will also continue to refine its Sapsan system to pursue future sales to Russia and potential export users.
Moscow has yet to reveal which of its aircraft could be equipped with the Damocles system (white pod pictured below carried by French navy Dassault Rafale), but its Su-27SM2 and Su-34 fighters are considered lead candidates, along with upgraded Su-24M2s and Su-27SMs.
Russia could also be set to produce Sagem Matis thermal imagers for its manned surveillance aircraft and unmanned air vehicles, under a separate joint venture agreement with UOMZ. -

Look at it the other way.
If the RMAF doesn't train with the Indian Flankers, they'd probably train with Pakistan Vipers. The Indians sure don't want the Pakistanis to exercise and discover their flanker's performance envelope.
For the RMAF, why find out how to defeat the vipers the hard way when they can just ask the Indian AF? Save fuel, cut logistics cost. -
I know that this thread might be already cold but I still like to add my 2 cents worth.
We may be actually getting over complacent in recent years. Sure, we have our 60+ Block 52 F-16's and (should be) 20+F-15S in our orbat. Sure we can kick ass if there happen to be a threat with what we have. But it seems like we are getting a little over zealous with our capabilities and down right ignorant with our neighbours. Have gone to become too proud?
It may sound ridiculous but history is repeating itself. We have grown into what our previous unwanted colonial masters use to be...... plain ignorant. "The Japanese are short sighted buck teeth asians that can hardly keep their aircraft in the air." Sounds firmiliar.
I have been to our Air Force's briefings and that kind of attitude is prevalent. In fact when the Intel Officers reaches the part about potential threats and our closest neighbour, there was a wave in the air and a snigger saying "MAS" - "Mana ada Systems HA! ha! ha!" He actually could not be bothered to talk about it. Then someone actually demanded that he touches on the subject.
He gave a very reluctant answer. - "Too many different types of aircraft. Logistically, very difficult to maintain aircraft. Aircrafts half U/S. (unserviceable). So there is no threat. Their ground crew are a lazy lot. Further more we don't think their pilots are any good."
WOW!!!! Talk about complacent. My jaw dropped so fast that i was rubbing my chin 2 seconds latter. Come on man Please lah.... they want us to think that is so. It is an counter intelligence method call dis-information!!!! I came across an book call "Mercenaries" (can't remember the author off hand).
The RMAF subcontracts out the maintenance of their A/C to American and Russian companies. So do you really think that so many of their front line fighters are U/S?????
So they bought 20 AMRAAMS... how many AMRAAMS does Singapore have before we concluded the F-15S deal?
Sometimes it is wiser to do a little self examination and soul searching before we decide to write them off... don't you agree??

Well i personally always believe, if they have something. Always assume the equipment is 100% ready and is 130% capable. From what you said, i assume you are in the air force?
I must say, ground ops will be much easier if we have clear skies AND CAS. If those stick jockies get too stuck up, things can just unravel.
Personally, ever since their newest PM took over, i notice alot of speeding up and more efficient running of their govenrnment agencies.
Take a look at the recent floods and even the groceries price rises, their government reacted very swiftly and that's very applaudable. (water trucks deployed, food stocks released, swift contamination of illegal food exports, implementation of food controls. )
So in a sense i agree that we shouldnt rest on our laurels. Not a bit otherwise, we will not only be unable to rise to the occasion but worst off, collapse like a ton of bricks with just a single hard kick.
No i wouldnt believe that they stuff is mainly U/S. At least not as bad as it was some years back. Nowadays the military equipment is like modern civilian cars. As long as you top up the petrol, water and engine oil, it will run and run rather well especially their new equipment.

No, I'm a grunt, your typical everyday foot soldier. Just happened to be invited by the airedales to their little party. I guess maybe we infantry types are more down to earth.
Me and my fellow army types went away feeling very worried after the briefing thinking what is going to happen when the sh**t hits the fan when our high flying brothers in arms are basking in their own "glory".

We are a declining nation. Glory is in the past, oh no we never had it, gloom is ahead of us. While we tried and some still do to be a secular nation many now want this be changed to an Islamic state.
and the 4 Sukhois have no weapons aside from cannon ammo.......nothing. Really. Perhaps they were thinking of ramming as an option.
