(2nd LD) S. Korean fighter jet crashes during training flight SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Yonhap) -- A South Korean KF-16 combat jet crashed off the country's west coast during a training flight on Tuesday, but its pilot survived, the Defense Ministry said.
The Air Force captain, identified only by his surname Woo, ejected just before the crash and was rescued, it added.
"It is believed that the jet went down into the West Sea while flying near a shooting range in Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, " a ministry official said. "We are still searching for the wreckage of the plane." South Korea has acquired more than 130 of the U.S.-made planes since it first purchased them in the early 1990s.
It is the fourth accident involving the KF-16 here. The previous ones took place in August and September 1997 and in February 2002.
