Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI) Angkatan Laut (AL) mengungkapkan telah menyerahkan spesifikasi kapal perang jenis korvet nasional kepada Departemen Pertahanan (Dephan). “Tipe kapal sudah disampaikan. Harapannya, spesifikasi yang sudah dikirimkan dapat dipenuhi,” ujar Kepala Staf Angkatan Laut Laksamana TNI Slamet Soebijanto, seusai acara serah terima jabatan Kepala Jawatan Hidro-Oseanografi, Rabu (31/1).
Spesifikasi kapal korvet yang dibangun itu diantaranya memiliki panjang garis air 80,000 meter, lebar 12,20 meter, tinggi geladak utama 8,20 meter, kecepatan rata-rata 25,2 knots, akomodasi 81 orang, draf 3,46 meter dan daya pendorong 2 x 7.400 kw.
Kasal menjelaskan, kapal dengan spesifikasi yang diusulkan itu, akan mampu menyusuri segala medan di perairan Indonesia. “Mengingat arus di kawasan timur yang kuat,” tambahnya.
Tidak hanya itu, Kasal menjelaskan korvet tersebut nantinya juga dilengkapi senjata, seperti meriam dan peluru kendali yang memadai. “Jangkauannya diharapkan sekitar 250-300 km,” lanjutnya.
Kasal berharap, dalam pembuatan kapal tersebut, TNI AL banyak dilibatkan. “Harus, karena yang akan operasional kan kami,” jelasnya seraya menambahkan, koordinasi yang baik, akan didapatkan hasil yang baik pula.
Namun, Kasal mengingatkan, jadwal program pembuatan harus diperketat sehingga waktu selesainya dapat lebih cepat dan dapat diprediksi. “Jangan sampai terjadi penundaan. Keberadaan kapal bagi TNI AL sangat tinggi,” terangnya. Kasal sendiri berarap, program ini dapat mulai bekerja tahun 2008.
Jumlah kapal TNI AL memang masih sangat kurang. Data TNI AL menyebutkan, minimal dibutuhkan sekitar 274 kapal untuk operasional. Saat ini jumlah kapal yang dimiliki hanya berjumlah 114 kapal. “Itu pun tidak bisa semua beroperasi hanya sepertiga kekuatan,” tegasnya.
Dengan demikian, ujar Kasal, hanya sekitar 50 kapal yang beroperasi untuk menjaga perairan Indonesia. Padahal, panjang garis pantai mencapai 81.000 km. “Ini tentu tidak tercover. Kami membutuhkan kapal lebih banyak lagi. Tetapi, pelaksanaannya tentu tergantung anggaran pemerintah,” kata Kasal.
Pembangunan kapal korvet nasional bertujuan mempersiapkan kemandirian dibidang ketahanan. Program pembangunan ini, dipersiapkan bersama-sama oleh Departeman Pertahanan, TNI AL, PT PAL Indonesia serta industri-industri pendukung lainnya. Selain indutri perkapalan, tidak kurang dari 18 industri strategis akan dilibatkan, antara lain seperti industri senjata, navigasi dan komunikasi.
Selain itu, dari segi anggaran, ke depan pembangunan kapal akan lebih murah karena akan dibuat dalam jumlah banyak di dalam negeri.
