Junior Under Officer Abubakar bin Abdillah Alkatib grew up and went to school in Singapore. After leaving school he joined the Singapore Army, was selected to attend officer cadet school and was awarded the Silver Bayonet.
He has represented the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst at association football.
He hopes to join the Singapore Infantry.
AbubakarÂ’s father Abdillah was a Major in the Civil Defence Force and his mother, Zainah, teaches English.
The 20-year-old out-performed elite officers from countries around the world, including two young princes, and returned with top honours. He was awarded the Overseas Sword of Honour – the last time a Singaporean officer won the Sword of Honour was in 1991. He also won the Brunei War Studies Prize for turning in the best performance in war studies.

You will be surprised how rarely that happens and how many Malay officers we have in the SAF.Originally posted by mhcampboy:

Contrary to popular opinion, no actually, more of it I cannot say.Originally posted by moca:We would have really moved forward as one nation when SG Malays are fully-integrated into all areas of SAF without discrimination.
How did you know this?Originally posted by beavan:why change something that isn't spoilt. the current malay population of singapore has no qualms about the military situation.
Well, it has been pretty obvious for years that you don't have malays in certain vocations, and many are simply siphoned off to the Civil Defence or Police.Originally posted by moca:How did you know this?
