USN to name next Carrier after Ford!!

  So the first ship of the CVN-21 proj will be USS Gerald R. Ford.
  
  Although he serve only 2 years and wasnt elected.
  
  I thought that he deserved it.
  
  He serve onboard an aircraft carrier in WW2.
  So did George H Bush and he got a carrier named after him.
  Jimmy Carter also served as a submariner and he has a Nuclear sub named after him.
  
  So does it means that the new class will be named the Gerald R. Ford class?!

  Chey, I thought it would be USS Ford Focus, USS Ford Mondeo, USS Ford Transit.

  ya, the the first carrier of the class is slated to replace the USS Enterprise.

  I hope they retain the Enterprise class name. But by all means, name the first ship after President Ford.

  I dont think they have come up with the class name yet although the project is named CVN21.
  
  But ususally the first ship is named after class.

  There are proponents that is pushing for the lead-ship of the CVN21-series to be named the 'America'. Another is that I read the 'Midway'or even 'JFK' is being supported.
  
  In short, we will see/hear such names 'flying' around and being pushed to the US Navy establishment....and nothing is settled until the USN announces it.

  If you read the link posted the Pentagon already said it will confirm the report in "a few weeks time" after the funeral is settled with the ford family.
