My guess is that RSAF will simply get more F-16C/Ds to replace the F-5S/T. Comments?
I hope that the RSAF will opt for a more capable platform in the form of additional F-16 Block 52+/Block 60 or even the JAS39C/D Gripen to replace the F-5S/T fleet. This will ease logistical issues if the F-16 is chosen and also provide greater fighting capability and range if either one is chosen. The A-50, whilst a capable platform for its class, would offer the RSAF the capability of a good COIN and light attack/defensive counter air platform, nothing more.
A purchase of 2 squadrons of F-16s or Gripens (36-40 warplanes) would be ideal given that the RSAF intends to acquire at least 40 F-15SG, although up to 60 may be acquired. The F-35A will appear in RSAF colours not before 2015 even if a decision is taken to go ahead. It is more of a replacement for our oldest F-16s in service, which are approaching 20 years of age by 2015.
