Air Force head to join in T-50 trainer jet exercise

SEOUL, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Air Force chief was to join this year's first midair interception exercise here later Tuesday in which he will pilot the country's domestically made air trainer jet himself, the Air Force said.
Air Force Chief of Staff Kim Sung-il's participation in the drill is aimed at testing T-50 training aircraft before they are commissioned starting in February, as well as inspecting the air defense posture, it added.
South Korea developed its first trainer jet T-50, which is able to fly at supersonic speed, in 2005 for the purpose of training elite pilots. It is also seeking to export the jet.
"The T-50 fleet led by Chief of Staff Kim is scheduled to take off from the Air Force's base in Suwon (46 kilometers south of Seoul) around 2:40 p.m.," the Air Force said in a press release.

If i am not wrong the South Koreans plan to replace their F-5s with A-50(combat version of T-50). I am wondering if we will do the same for our F-5S/T.
My guess is that RSAF will simply get more F-16C/Ds to replace the F-5S/T. Comments?

Flight International reported in last November that the RSAF's "Advanced and lead-in fighter training will still be conducted using BAE Systems Hawk 115s operated by the Bombardier-led NATO Flying Training in Canada system."

I hope that the RSAF will opt for a more capable platform in the form of additional F-16 Block 52+/Block 60 or even the JAS39C/D Gripen to replace the F-5S/T fleet. This will ease logistical issues if the F-16 is chosen and also provide greater fighting capability and range if either one is chosen. A purchase of 2 squadrons of F-16s or Gripens (36-40 warplanes) would be ideal given that the RSAF intends to acquire at least 40 F-15SG, although up to 60 may be acquired. The F-35A will appear in RSAF colours not before 2015 even if a decision is taken to go ahead. It is more of a replacement for our oldest F-16s in service, which are approaching 20 years of age by 2015. -
Does anyone know whether the RSAF is able to use the PC-21 fleet which is leased rather than fully owned in the event of a conflict? In the COIN and light attack role that is, much like its predecessor the SF260W, which were known to be armed with rocket pods and mounted gun systems.
I have never been a fan of such leasing deals. To be honest, I would prefer the RSAF retain full ownership of every single aircraft. In fact, purchasing those 19 PC-21 outright would cost less than 2 or 3 F-16s. Of course, any comments are welcome.

If you own the PC-21 fleet, don't you have to borne the running costs as well?
In war time(which will never happen) these planes will actually be wasting the use of our limited pilots too as they are not really design for combat. Probably limited COIN use.
Probably an OV-10 or maybe a Schweiser observation plane would be a better plane to own as trainer if they are suitable at all. -
More F-16s and peace carvins as well.
If T-50, then should have upgraded the A-4s fleet instead.
