haiya, they are in a dilemma mahOriginally posted by fallin:But seriously, although its part of the scenario, I find it very hard to believe that China will sit back and shake leg if NK invades South Korea.
If 100,000 refugees rush down our border from Malaysia, you think we will just stand back and do nothing meh?Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:haiya, they are in a dilemma mah
on one hand wanna strengthen ties with US and the other wanna maintain good terms with NK.
How's it possible that all the Rufugees from NK come to Singapore? The distant is very far, and there are many countries that they need to clear first before coming to Singapore. Well. I predict that many rufugees will exit NK, most will want to go China or Russia.Originally posted by fallin:If 100,000 refugees rush down our border from Malaysia, you think we will just stand back and do nothing meh?
What I said was an analogy. I meant that just as Singapore won't standby and watch refugees rush down from our neighbours, China most definately won't stand by and watch North Korean refugees go across their border en mass. Its an analogy, I didn't literally mean that the NKs are gonna come down to Singapore.Originally posted by acwire_2125:How's it possible that all the Rufugees from NK come to Singapore? North Korea is the immediate neighbour of China and I don't think China really want to go to war with its former "comrade" again. China is big enough to receive 100,000 refugees or more, and North Korean refugees will probably start going into China if the UN coalition forces started bombing civilian targets or when North Korean troops are defeated.Originally posted by fallin:But seriously, although its part of the scenario, I find it very hard to believe that China will sit back and shake leg if NK invades South Korea.

Politically, China will not want to invade North Korean unless its own interest is at stake.
We should be happy if China do not supply anymore war materials to North Korea.
this whether we send troops or not our government sure do wan.Originally posted by miserable:Aiya...what we shall do then, is to send our MM to the UN. He will recommed that the Allied soldiers to come to Singapore for their R&R. They can do their shopping in Orchard Road and of course, visit our casinos. This will be just like the Vietnam War days.

I don't believe that China will launch an attack on Taiwan just like that. Their foreign policy is very clear. They will only attack if any one of 5 conditions are met. Seizing the moment while the US is busy is not one of them.Originally posted by acwire_2125:Well, the invasion of South Korea may not affect Singaproe directly. But hink of it this way, When the North attacks the South, US troops will rush over to help out. At this same time, China sees that the defence of Taiwan on the US side is lax, they will launch an attack on Taiwan, thus affecting Singapore directly cause we have our troops there. This time, wad do you guys think Singapore will do?
Let's set the scenario as China having attacked Taiwan, and follow on from there. This discussion is scenario based, not really a political debate.Originally posted by fallin:I don't believe that China will launch an attack on Taiwan just like that. you don't need brains to tell you that sg will choose the first option.Originally posted by acwire_2125:hha, that would make it even more realistic! haha!
WEl, I do believe that by then, Singapore will either pull back all the troops in Taiwan or fight with Taiwan against China. Either way, we will have to affect bilateral ties with China or Taiwan.
What if these troops are unable to evacuate due to a naval blockade which the Chinese would not lift and come under Chinese attacks? Would you as the local theatre commander order your Singaporean troops to fire on PLA forces in self-defense or surrender?Originally posted by alwaysdisturbed:you don't need brains to tell you that sg will choose the first option.
Since when, invading Taiwan, Who is still under civil war, becomes world domination ? It's just across 200 km of water.Originally posted by beavan:wow good topic. it would now dependon the political situation. whether the USA and the world is going to defend taiwan or not.
if they are, then fire back in self defense. if not, then jus purely surrender straight away to prevent bloodshed and embrace a new world order of chinese world domination
Singapore should do nothing ! By then US, Japan & other Nato countries would have enough troops to take care of the situation.Originally posted by sgdiehard:Jan 7, 2007, all talks to persuade North Korea to stop its nuclear weapons program fail. America and Japan came up with a series of sanctions, North Korea responded with another underground nuclear test on Jan 10.
US intelligence confirmed that North Korea is not ready to use any nuclear weapon (not possibility of a nuclear war), and decide to carry out first strike against their nuclear facilities.
Jan 15, 2007, North Korea army marched across 38th parallel, ....
UN in an emergency meeting passed resolution to condemn the invasion, and call on all friendly nations to join in the fight against North Korea, a UN military coalition is formed....but,
China and Russia, though join in the condemnation, promise material supplies, humanity assistance but no troops. For nationalist reason, no Japanese troops allowed on the Korean pennisular, but Japan opens all military facilities to be used by the allied coalition.
What will Singapore do?
1. send in medical and comms units.
2. plus warships for naval blockade.
3. plus a squadron of F16 to strike against invading forces.
are we prepared to commit land fighting forces?
are we ready to fight in such severe weather conditions?
to really make a difference, what size of land forces should we send?
what are the problems we might face if we fight alongside an international forces?
hope this is just a paper discussion.
I believe we have some arrangements with China to allow us to pull our personnel out when the sshit hits the fan.Originally posted by LazerLordz:What if these troops are unable to evacuate due to a naval blockade which the Chinese would not lift and come under Chinese attacks? ya like let our ships sail through their missle blockade and pick up singaporeans? i doubt it'll happen.Originally posted by Shotgun:I believe we have some arrangements with China to allow us to pull our personnel out when the sshit hits the fan.
At most, we'd be the first "Peacekeeping force" allowed on Taiwan by China.
i don't think they wanna strain ties with us?Originally posted by LazerLordz:What if these troops are unable to evacuate due to a naval blockade which the Chinese would not lift and come under Chinese attacks?
