Congressional notification does not necessarily mean the weapons were actually exported as described. Limited changes may occur without another notification, or the final contract or letter of offer may never have been completed.I'm guessing we changed our orders quite a number of times, and not everything we bought was reflected. And as for the orders such as the F/A-18s, it was reflected but never bought.
Boy oh boy, such strong statement...Originally posted by Gooseliver:If you are well versed in military aviation, how on earth one country could operate fighter jets in another country and of all places in ROC???
ROC does not need RSAF to supplement their airforce incase of hostilities
They have 360 F5 in mothball, 150 Mirages 2000 and same nos of F16s but no F4
There is no way even under clandestine operation... the person who created this rumour must be a druggie and you pple also believe this story... you guys dont know what you are talking about...airplanes or tankees ??
Dude, I think u mean McDonell Douglas??Originally posted by Joe Black:Boy oh boy, such strong statement...
I was following the development RSAF since the Strikemaster days. Those days, the Hawker Hunter was still a cool plane. Why wouldn't you believe that RSAF did in fact evaluate F4 phantom? I actually had Mil Tech book that talked about it. Evaluating and owning are 2 different thing.
Would you believe if I tell you RSAF flew A4B (albeit refurbished by Lockheed - what you would asked, A4B was a MacDonald Douglas plane) at one stage?
Thanks for the insider info! Viggens will be nice but glad that we went along with the F-16s.Originally posted by Gooseliver:Well, we requested for F4 before we acquired the carcasses of A4B from arizona when Philippines was having the Crusaders. That time US congress did not allow F4 to be sold to 3rd country while PI was a special ally. Just like the waterdown version of F16AB which later sold to us. In fact, at one time we were very interested in the swedish Viggens..
Before SF260 we were having Air Tourer from NZ as our basic trainers..
All the time before Mt Pinatubo eruption, most of the aircraft were stationed in Clark air base on rotational basis
actually Viggens suit our terriority as Swedish and us got the habit of using strips roads as runways & Viggens as most carnards aircraft have STOL capabilityOriginally posted by tankee1981:Thanks for the insider info! Viggens will be nice but glad that we went along with the F-16s.
I agree, but the avaliability of spare parts of Viggens is much lesser as compared to the F-16. Thus cost of spares will be higher. At that time, Singapore is not that rich yet.Originally posted by duotiga83:actually Viggens suit our terriority as Swedish and us got the habit of using strips roads as runways & Viggens as most carnards aircraft have STOL capability
