In the USMC,even if you are a medical doctor, you are firstly an infantryman secondly a doctor. If you are a clerk, you are firstly an infantryman, secondly a clerk etc etc...Originally posted by Fatum:I have no idea about the infantry ... but one thing's for sure, combat service support side marines are better infantrymen than their army counterparts ....
even marine drivers and clerks have to go for regular field exercises to refresh their basic riflemen skills, and the US army experience in the 2003 invasion showed this is a wise move (remember jessica lynch guys ? )
now I wonder how our CSS people will fight ? ....
Haha,i read that last millenium.Originally posted by Hellraiza:marines hands down. Recently bought the book MARINES-a guided tour into a marine expeditionary unit by Tom Clancy. A real eye opener

US Marines is sent to invade the country coastlines first, and establish the base before main reinforement of US Army arrive to take up position. However, US Marines air support is not as great as that of US Army.(US Marines standard combat helicopter is Super Cobra whereas US Army used Apache... )

But Their Super Cobras are Super Upgraded Just like the Apache...
If thats the case, why is it that it was the US Army and not the Marines that rushed down the beaches of Normandy during D-Day? Was the entire Marine Corp occupied in the Pacific?Originally posted by fkh:US Marines is sent to invade the country coastlines first, and establish the base before main reinforement of US Army arrive to take up position. i think that is quite trueOriginally posted by orionlight:If i'm not wrong, the marines is an entire service by itself, independent of the Army, Navy or Airforce, heck it even has its own air corps. However it is always commonly mistaken as the little brother of the Navy
sorry... the Marines IS part of the Navy... although there is a Marine General in the Higher HQ level together with the other service chiefOriginally posted by orionlight:If i'm not wrong, the marines is an entire service by itself, independent of the Army, Navy or Airforce, heck it even has its own air corps. However it is always commonly mistaken as the little brother of the Navy
Yes in fact the whole marine corp is mobilised to reconquer the whole pacific region! The numerous operation D-Day in the pacific was entirely carried out by the marines, such as the battle in the guandacanal, tarawa so on and so forthOriginally posted by fallin:If thats the case, why is it that it was the US Army and not the Marines that rushed down the beaches of Normandy during D-Day? During the times of war, when US Marines is at seas, it was subordinate to US Navy, and When US Marines is on lands, it is under US Army Command..Thanks for the heads up.
The marines do not have a medical corp, they second corpmen and doctors from the navy...Originally posted by Marco_Simone:In the USMC,even if you are a medical doctor, you are firstly an infantryman secondly a doctor. If you are a clerk, you are firstly an infantryman, secondly a clerk etc etc...
USCG falls under the Dept of Homeland Security. HOwever, in times of war can be drafted into the department of Navy also.So does their National Guard under the Army... Most of the Infantry Divisions During WW2 in Normandy comes from the National Guard..
