The Israel Defence Force (IDF) is set to begin procurement of the Rafael Armament Development Authority's Trophy Active Protection System (APS) for its Merkava Mk 4 main battle tanks (MBTs).
At the same time, the IDF has requested that Israel Military Industries (IMI) accelerate development of its Iron Fist APS. IMI claims its system is capable of defeating kinetic energy projectiles, as well as ATGMs, with reduced collateral damage compared to the Trophy.
IMI has appealed to the Ministry of Defence on the Trophy decision, claiming that its Iron Fist is only three months behind Rafael in completing development. "Such a short time difference between the systems could not be the basis for a decision, especially when Iron Fist has advantages over the Trophy, both in dealing with a wider variety of threats and in reduced collateral damage," an IMI source told Jane's.
Thats true, the trophy system haven't been battle-tested yet despite the extensive testings.Originally posted by glock:Let it be battle tested first. Then evaluate the system ourselves -
shoot 120 mm cannon rounds at it , RPGs, 84s , 155 arty , 120 mortar simultanously, and if the system can cope , then buy it.
Hope this will help.Originally posted by SingaporeMacross:I wonder how the interception system works..
