I know that there is a distinction between these two appointments(WSO & Pilot), but i think the WSO is cross trained to take over the flying of the plane should anything happen to the pilot. This way they can save both the plane and their lives. So in a way, a WSO can be considered a pilot as well.Originally posted by Pitot:wso oso pilot wad.
A WSO is not a pilot. In the event of the pilot being incapacitated/ unable to fly, I'd think they might have the little basic skill to salvage/ land the plane. Other than that, they really just sit in the backseat of the jet and operate the weapon systems/ complement the crew in terms of mission requirements.Originally posted by tankee1981:I know that there is a distinction between these two appointments(WSO & Pilot), but i think the WSO is cross trained to take over the flying of the plane should anything happen to the pilot. It will be nice to hear a feminine voice over the comms! Lets just say it will help with the morale and wake those soldiers who are half asleep!Originally posted by gary1910:There was a female F-16 pilot spotted in the video during the recent Exe Pitch Black in Australia, here the screenshots that I have taken and posted over in the new forum.
Not necessary, you can mix a junior pilot with a senior wso or a senior pilot with a junior wso. Its all about crew matching.Originally posted by gary1910:Correct me if I am wrong, I tot WSO is the more senior crew of the a/c and both are pilots.
From the pix , the lady pilot seem to be younger one, and the guy seem to be older and perhaps the WSO.
wtf are u serious?Originally posted by Shotgun:Got external luggage compartment that can be bolted on to one of the hardpoints on the F-16.
Yeah, its like an external fuel tank. Except that u put small luggage in.Originally posted by beavan:wtf are u serious?
won't it be exposed to extreme temperatures as a results?Originally posted by Shotgun:Yeah, its like an external fuel tank. Except that u put small luggage in.
Don't worry, its vacuum sealed for freshness.Originally posted by beavan:won't it be exposed to extreme temperatures as a results?
so this means that the baggage are not accessible during the flight? what do they normally bring onboard the plane? so the things in the baggages are not things that they will need during the flight is that true?Originally posted by Shotgun:Yeah, its like an external fuel tank. Its accessible. The copilot will fly the plane, the other guy who needs to reach his bag will climb out of the cockpit in flight. If alone, he'll set it on autopilot.Originally posted by mrblitzer21:so this means that the baggage are not accessible during the flight? what do they normally bring onboard the plane? so the things in the baggages are not things that they will need during the flight is that true?
then why would they carry things they do not need on the mission? like travelling overseas like that?Originally posted by Shotgun:Stop messing with his head.
No the baggages stored in the travel pod are not accessible during flight due to the nature of the storage.
