In the 90s, MOU for 8 of them was signed with SA but later it was cancelled.Originally posted by Shotgun:I heard sometime ago they were interested in the Rooivalk.

Recently, Turkey was considering licensed producing them(Rooivalk or Augusta), MY was interested getting them from Turkey if they have chosen the Rooivalk, but Turkey army is not satisfied with choices given, so it is delayed again.
The DU armor is cool, but America does have a lot more land to worry about DU waste and stuff. The stuff scattered from knocked out tanks and rounds is big trouble to clean up and a health hazard to all.Originally posted by MobyDog:LEO's 2A4 is a good buy.. with good price technical transfers and an outstanding 120mm gun... we will certainly upgrade them to rolls royce level... knowing singapore's pattern.
Luckily didn't get the M1.. fuel inefficient and DU armour... I am not comfortable with DU at all.
The Leopard is 55 tons++, whereas the latest upgraded M1 is 68 tons++?Originally posted by Pitot:ANd wad happened to the people who say our fighting area unsuitable for a MBT?
and hor, why not the M1 abrams?

Jadi bukan yang baru betul2 la ye.
Kawan setuju betul dgn cadangan Tempur tu, tapi kawan harap kerajaan kita ambik perhatian la ttg perkara ni, jangan dok berikan alasan "kita tak mahu berlumba dgn negara serantau"....
66 bijik Leopard + lain2 kereta kebal... kawan rasa ni dah bukan untuk tujuan defensive dah nih...
twardies? Is that another name for the PT-91s?Originally posted by Fatum:wait a minutes ? ....

I'd say someone got themselves fleeced. They're just uprated T-72s, IIRC.Originally posted by Fatum:yeps ....
almost forgot that Poland manufacture the Twardies .... AND operates the leopards .....
says a lot about the amount of confidence the polish army has in their local tanks eh ...
To prevent another Arjun.Originally posted by laurence82:And Leo2 was a recent purchase by the Polish Army right?
I was wondering why they wanna do that...

300M for 48? Not a good deal considering that the going rate for a Leopard is approx. 3M per piece.
