Haha the many things recruits doOriginally posted by LazerLordz:Some recruits have this notion that the SAF is made up of Infantry and SISPEC/OCS.
When me and my section mate were doing our evening jogs and light workouts around Tekong in our 6DIV garrison polos(we were on recourse) , we were interrupted by whole sections/platoons "diam-ing" themselves and greeting us Sirs.
My friend was quite irritated when he was doing his chin-ups and the neighbouring coy kept coming up to him and greeting him. He stopped and told them he's just a LCP, then one of the recruits pointed to the 6DIV badge, and asked him if he's an officer.
For most recruits polo shirts automatically= officer or spec. Most of the other perm staff on Tekong do not wear polos, so naturally they will make this connection.Originally posted by LazerLordz:Some recruits have this notion that the SAF is made up of Infantry and SISPEC/OCS.

Yeah, but it was funny to see my friend get so worked up. Funny how they targeted him all the time. Maybe it was his build.. SAFSA rugby player..Originally posted by Typhoon:For most recruits polo shirts automatically= officer or spec. Not all SBS buses are parked in interchanges or depots. Some are parked at bus stops, prepositioned for the next day's 1st bus. Somebody took a leaf from military logistics.Originally posted by moca:Perhaps you are OVERESTIMATING the space needed to put in storage a few hundred or even a few thousand AFVs in Singapore.
Let me ask yo a simple question: How many buses do you think SBS has? A hundred? A thousand? At night when they are not on the road, they are in storage at the depots right?
A bus is usually bigger than most AFVs. So if SBS can park a thousand buses, I'm sure our mighty SAF can store a few thousand AFVs no problem.
As in some RSAF aircrafts parked ready for scramble?Originally posted by touchstone_2000:Not all SBS buses are parked in interchanges or depots. Some are parked at bus stops, prepositioned for the next day's 1st bus. Somebody took a leaf from military logistics.
Well, not completely off topic. Some people are saying where are all these tanks and AFV's we supposedly have? If they are all overseas what if war happens etc etc.Originally posted by glock:This thread is totally off the track. The topic of this thread was Leopard Tanks right ?
hmm maybe we shdn't know this?Originally posted by gary1910:For those who dunno, majority of our MBTs or any other AFVs are always in SG , only small amount are for oversea training.
That I know for a fact.
I know where they are in SG and are guarded by MP, only those who are cleared by MSD are allowed to enter the compound, I have heard that a Cpt was told to fxxkoff by the MP becos he was not on the list.
It's alright. Good to have some reassurances too.Originally posted by beavan:hmm maybe we shdn't know this?
Is SAF so stupid to have all our MBTs overseas that take abt a week+ to ship back becos the conflict could be over by then!!!!!Originally posted by beavan:hmm maybe we shdn't know this?
On my own, I used to hike and bike a lot in the nature reserve forests around MacRitchie, Lower Pierce, Upper Pierce and to a lesser extent, Seletar.Originally posted by gary1910:Is SAF so stupid to have all our MBTs overseas that take abt a week+ to ship back becos the conflict could be over by then!!!!!
Training is one thing but the main purpose of our fighting eqmt is meant to be here when there is a conflict.
For example, just like our Apaches , they were shipped back to SG & comissioned last year just b4 the MY got their hand on their PT-91 which should be delivered by this year.
True... If we could just equip ourselves AI or Infantry platoon with two sections of 12 mounted ATGM...Originally posted by glock:The recent battles between Israeli Army & Hizbullah clearly show that even the most heavily armored MBT, the Merkava 3 & 4 armour can be penetrated by the latest gen of Russian ATGMs.
The Leo II A4 even when upgraded with new armor will fare no better against the latest ATGMs.
Maybe better for SAF to get Russian ATGMs rather than more MBTs in future. Can we have 12 ATGMs for each infantry battalion ?
there's a difference. MBT is an offence weapon, ATGM defensive.Originally posted by glock:Maybe better for SAF to get Russian ATGMs rather than more MBTs in future.
One APFSDS round costs about $700 bucks, while and ATGM can cost up to 10K a pop. Doing the math we can see why it may not be so cool to shoot our ATGMs at everything.Originally posted by beavan:maybe ATGM is too much?
it's real bulky and heavy.
If you are talking about those cheapo, older 2-camels a missile Ruskie ATGMs then yes. But these systems suffer from a lot of issues and limitations, and come to think of it... if you are going to use it to pop a bunker or annoy a tank... why not just use an 84 which far more flexible? If the low cost was really so attractive and useful, we would be totting Saggers nows.Originally posted by glock:Buy Russian ATGM and maybe it costs $3000 a pop.
Mount the ATGM on a Bionix or Land Rover and you solve the weight problem.
