Throw into the sea is such a waste, they can be used as targets, gate guardians, muesuem exhibits, donate to Philippines/Indonesia(some of their AMX-13 is upgraded by us to SM1 standard), perhaps even as scrap metal. The way he comments about MINDEF's latest purchase makes it seem that our people in charge of procurement are people who go for cheap, lousy deals. He has effectively cheapened the whole procurement process and given the number of people who visit the blog daily, the readers themselves, both local and foreign will have a lower opinion of the SAF, if they don't already have.
I remember reading his post about the RSAF's purchase of the F-15SG. He obviously does not even have the knowlege that the new warplane we are getting are brand new machines, not second hand, generations ahead of the original eagle. We must keep in mind that many people outside are not really enthusiastic in military developments or technology as us and will take whatever he posts on his blog as true. He is one of the more famous online personalities in Singapore and his words do have an impact on the selective memories of our youth, who would easily remember what he says on his blog rather than what is reported on the newspapers.
A sense of humour in Singapore is to be appreciated certainly. By all means, comment on some of the ugly habits such as littering and lack of courtesy and even make scarcastic jokes about them. I believe that this will edge people to improve on themselves and be reminded that they should not become a joke themselves. However, to make such remarks about our defence procurements is a sign of disrespect to the people who are involved in the decision making process as well as those who train hard on these machines, such that we can have another night of peaceful sleep. It is another thing, both insulting and demeaning to just sit comfortably and try to make fun of these people by making a voice recording that will make us the butt of jokes in an already unstable neighbourhood.
Ok maybe I was harsh on Mr Brown earlier. But I am sure none of us here would ever do something like that. -

However, my opinion is that majority of Singaporeans (non-milnuts) don't really care to know if our "2nd hand tanks" are modern or not. Nor do they even understand the difference between an AMX-13 SM1 light tank and a Leopard2A4 MBT. For these people, who don't care to know, its already a bonus that they are informed that their money is used to buy military hardware regardless of their source being Mr Brown or Straits Times.
For those who naively believe that the RSAF bought 30 year old warplanes, and WW2 tanks to replace the SM1, they will realise their mistakes someday, perhaps thru an embarrassing discussion with one of us milnuts.
If the people in charge of procurement feel disrespected, offended by how Mr Brown has portrayed them, then they should be more open with regards to procurement plans (within limitations of course). The problem is that people don't know how the procurement process works, and Mindef doesn't want to talk about it. SO when signed and sealed deal like the Leopard2 purchase suddenly popped up, people don't understand and speculate lor.
From the podcast, Mr Brown probably doesn't have a clue how procurement works, and since Mindef/Govt can't be bothered to explain either, theres really no one to blame for the speculation and belief that SAF likes to buy cheapo-2nd hand equipment. You have to admit, on the surface, that IS what it looks like. Not everyone will delve into subject matters like this, certainly not the average singaporean, certainly not Mr Brown.
Chill out and just watch the people make a fool of themselves. =) -

If Mr Brown's humour is bad, it will die a natural death as people will stop paying attention to him.
But unfortunately (for some), he seems to be very popular.
If you look at the Brits and how tthey make fun of everything and everyone especially themselves, you would see that no harm's been done. In Dad's Army or 'Allo 'Allo or Yes, Prime Minister they make the British Armed Forces and government look like complete baffoons.
Yet, we know the opposite is true.
