Though depleted, DU found in a certain type of tank rounds have some residual radioactivity which can cause damage to the DNA within our cells. These normal cells will turn cancerous and the person develops cancer. However if the DNA within the sex cells(sperm cells and ova) is damaged by this radioactivity, the child conceive with these damaged sex cells will suffer genetic defects.
I am aware that vaccine for anthrax or some other biological weapon is given to the US troops in Gulf War 1. This is the same vaccine which some claims to cause the Gulf War syndrome, i didn't heard anything about the DU except that Iraqi civilians are affected by the DU rounds after it is fired.
