seems like a long time since we last heard about rss courageous... sorry to bring up the topic again.
Any idea what is it doing now? or it has already been used as a target for missile test?

The last time i heard about RSS Courageous in MN is that it have been replaced or fully repaired. But personally i think they are operating with one less PV as compared to before the tragedy.
BTW does, SAF have a military cemetry or something for those who died while on duty? -

its in changi base, the maintenance yard. ship is beyond repair (i think) as the keel is split.. the main part of the is sits there dry docked while the aft part (the one tht kenna split) is covered in canvass sheets. no idea what is the intention for the ship though.

Memorial idea is likely but i think it will be disrespectful to the dead sailors should it be used as a teaching tool. there is sort of a memorial at the changi training base.. the whole stretch of path where the school faces the sea is called the courageous walk.

The USN build us USS Arizona to honour the deaths due to the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbour leh.
The RSS Courageous is at present state due to the negligence of their Officers on watch commanding the ship at that point of time leh...
Diff story... Build a memorial to honour negligence will become a disgrace to the RSN.
Dunno how are the officers who commands the 96 how are they now?
They flunked their ROR damn badly.
The RP who mans the radar dunno whether got do his job annot...
The lookouts also flunked their jobs... Such a big ship coming nvr report...
No excuse that it is night time that they cant see the vessel...
Commercial vessel switch on many lights during the night one...
Furthermore, there are electro-optical and night vision devices to aid the lookouts...
the radar is no difference in working same day and night...

And pardon me if I'm wrong, but a few posts up, someone say the commercial ship switch on all their light? But if I am not wrong, at night, all ships adhere to the rule that the fewer lights switch on, the better, regardless of the type of ship(military, commercial) it is -
yes yes...
there is an international standard... or ROR
standard navigational lights must be turned on...
but most but not all merchant vessels will switch on their decklights also..
usu these gigantic merchant vessels do so as some lookout might not identify the ship if they are inexperienced or due to other reasons.. with more decklights, there can easily see a ship and the size(or length, breadth)...
switching on decklights is not a must but most do...
but the standard is still the ROR....
I am not sure abt whether the Merchant Vessel switched on their decklights annot...
nonetheless, w/o decklights, there are still navigational lights which the lookout can identify the ship...
furthermore, with a big merchant vessel (i think it is a oil tanker), the radra can sure pick it up at a good distance away from the ship...
So basically the whole watch on deck screwed up... everyone should bear the responsibility....

The whole watch crew?i thought it was the officer of the watch and the helmsman that got the blame because the ship was identified and spotted but the acted in a completely stupid way by ignoring the starboard rule?

Given the officers a fine and jail term is not good enough, four lives were lost and no money or jailing would be suffice to replace the sorrows and pain of the families of the four sailors lost... -
