Can we get our F-16s which we donated to your Air Force back, please?
We need these planes just in case we go to war with Thailand over the Shin issue, and we need to bomb your HQ.
We hope you can understand our situation. Our beloved Lady is unable to pay any fine which you have in mind, and so we need to sell the planes to raise funds, should the plan to bomb you is not approved by the Board of directors.

Thailand to receive Singapore F-16A/B's
December 13, 2004 (by Bjorn Claes) - Singapore will donate its F-16A/B fleet to Thailand at the start of 2005. The vipers will be used by the RTAF to supplement the assets already in service with its Air Force.

This news was announced by RTAF Commander-in-Chief, Kongsak Wanthana at a press conference on November 18th.
On November 12th a memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two nations covering both the delivery of the 7 F-16s (3 Alpha models and 4 Bravo models) and the training facilities that the RSAF will get in return. In the MOU the RSAF is allowed to train 3 times a year at Udon Thani AB in Thailand for a maximum of 60 days a session with a maximum of 20 aircraft and this for a period of 15 years. -
please lah... have a heart lah... the thais are not having it easy right now, you know?
they want democracy, after years of under military leadership in the past... but their king is too stubborn to disappear into the background of an elected govt... especially one that is not to the kings liking.
moreover.. those planes are old... and we gave them sincerely, lets not appear childish like our northern neighbours.
and this stupid talk of war between thailand and singapore is too silly.
give the thais some time... they will straighten things out.
as for shin corps and temasek... i say we just leave it hang to dry..
if the new thai govt wanna be funny or blackmail us... lets just shut down shin corp and see if they will nationalise it... ultimately they will just end up shooting their own foot.
the worst thing to do now... would be to give in to their threats and pay them off with billions of dollars...
remember.. they are not an elected govt... there is no guarantee where the money will end up or disappear to...
singapore should just maintain normal diplomatic ties with them for now... until a new thai elected govt... is reinstated. -

The chances of Singapore going to war with Thailand is almost zero. Our ties with their previous government is not bad, our ties with their military is even better.
Its just like in the case of Indonesia, our ties with their previous governments have been through some rough patches but cooperation between our two armed forces have always been good all along.

How does the F-16 A/B compare to our F5S and F5II? If its better, wouldn't it have been wiser to kiss the F5 family bye bye instead of the F-16A/B? I understand the A/B is older than our C/D but heck, the F5 is a vietnam era plane. No doubt we've upgraded it to F5S and F5II but surely you're not telling me they can outperform the F-16 albeit the A/B versions right?

I think the Thais appreciate the F-16A/Bs more than the F-5S.
It wasn't a dead give away. We gained something in return.
Side track a bit. The RTAF operates quite a flying circus. They really have a large variety of air craft types! F-16 A/Bs, F-5 A to E versions, AV-8 Harriers, and EVEN A-7E Corsairs just to name a few! -
Like someone said, they are going through a rough patch and they need a scapegoat...
Well, Singapore somehow seemd to be the de facto scapegoat of the region for all our neighbour's internal troubles. Thank gods, we have a big armed force.

Why would we want something thats 20 yrs old back? Those A/Bs would have depreciated quite a fair bit, so sg aint losing much.
It a wiser choice to rationalise the current fleet of Falcons to the newer type...for maint purpose..aint cost effective to have a different set of only 8 a/c. -

Seriously, the A/Bs are not worth keeping. They were manufactured at reduced quality to lower the price of the F-16 so that the USAF would buy them in larger quantities.
