Wow.... caseless ammo

The caseless ammo have been developed by HK in the past for their futuristic G11 rifle. I think we should also pursue such technologies as we been an Asian, city dwelling and NS army, we should stand to gain alot from light-weight weapons. The reservists will certainly thank such light weight weapons! Another reason is that we no longer need to pick up the empty cartidges and sending them in after training if we use caseless rounds, this means we can save lots of time.

The G11 with caseless ammo project was cancelled due to cost and complexity. Technology for caseless ammo not mature enough. Costs far outweighed the benefits. The Germans ended up with the HK G 36, a very good rifle , but with evolutionary improvements only.
Even the lastest small arms just introduced have small improvements over previous generation of small arms such as M16 and AK74. -
May I ask, is there an issue of spent ammo casings hitting people during training or something? Pardon me,haven't been though NS yet.

Caseless ammo is totally cylindrical with the bullet completely inside the case.
No extractor device needed to extract & eject spent brass case - weapons is simplifed & no jamming can occur as extraction & ejection sequence is a major cause of weapon stoppages.
Also, no case means less weight - can carry more ammo.
No case to eject means no problem for left handed shooters who are hit by flying cases in right handed weapons. -

Yes, when you are a left handed shooter. The ejection port for the M-16 is located on the right, so there is a chance the casing might be ejected towards the direction of ur face for parts of ur body. A deflector is placed to HOPEFULLY deflect the expent casing away from the body of a left handed shooter. 1. $/round ? Looks extremely ex. With the war on terror going badly, still got the $$$?
2. SAW implementation. How are you going to handle overheating? All caseless implementation have cook off problems. That little brass cartridge removes alot of the heat expended during ignition of the propellant.
3. G11 broke H & K. Enough said.
4. G11 rounds needs to be sealed. -

actually, it's the brass casing that's the expensive part of ammo ... lead and powder are relatively cheap compared to manufacturing the casing and primer cap ..... that was one of the original motivation for pursuing caseless ammunition in the first place
if you take away the brass, you're cutting down on lots of cost in the long run ...
not to mention the tactical advantages in weight ...

The advantages seem obvious but I can't help but wonder about weapon cleaning...
Since the rest of the ammo besides the bullet itself, burns up, won't that produce lots more carbon than a traditional cased round?
