Stealth Surveillance Shelter (SSS)
Overview:
The Stealth Surveillance Shelter (SSS) is designed to provide near-infrared and thermal signature protection, as well as solar and temperature protection. The shelters protect Special Reconnaissance teams, Laser Targeting teams, and Sniper positions from environmental and detection threats.
Using a composite of different fibers, the SSS reduces both near-infrared and thermal signature while providing protection from temperature extremes that occur during day and night operations. Currently, teams have difficulty operating and avoiding detection from NIR and thermal signatures during daylight hours other than at dawn and dusk.
This breakthrough in concealment technology will enable teams to operate around the clock providing a significant increase in protection and concealment for reconnaissance missions. Additionally, due to reduced heat stress, it is envisioned that the team's performance will be enhanced and water use cut. This concept was developed and assessed as part of the Partnering with a Field Unit initiative.
