Cops with khaki beret

Ok so this ain't exactly military but still, was just curious.
I know the Police Tactical Troop now wears red berets similar to our CDOs. But today opposite Novena Church I saw about 10 cops. Don't know which unit they are from. They were not wearing the bullet proof vests & red berets like the PTT. However they were carrying MP5s & wore boots & khaki berets. Anyone have a clue what unit this is? I'm pretty sure its not KINS 'cos those guys wear blue berets. -

Nope. Not Gurkhas. Firstly, I've never seen a troop of 10 odd Gurkhas moving together. Secondly, the bus (double decker) stopped due to traffic jam & I had a good look at them crossing over head bridge.
Its a beret not the Gurkha hat. And they did NOT have the Kukri knives behind them. Real Gurkhas will not be caught dead without their Kukri knives. Also, Gurkhas are still using the old metal rank on sleeves. These guys had the cloth ranks on shoulders. Plus one guy was definitely an Indian. No way I can mistake an Indian for a Gurkha. -

Anyway, I thought Auxiliary Police are despatched only in times of crisis? AFAIK under normal circumstances they function as a private firm. Since when did Aux Police start patrolling the streets with sub machine guns? -

I can confirm it is the Gurkhas!
I have seen them in Suntec and Airport. When on duty, they will wear their trademark hats tilted on one side. When they are off duty, they will don theor Khaki Beret. The only thing to idnetify them is the Khukri that they always wear wherever they are. The ranks on their no.4 are on the right pocket. Only when they are in their Police uniform( those that the regular police are wearing) they will wear their metal ranks on their sleeves. -
Gurkhas or their commanders... it's for the night.. in the day, they wear their hats

Btw SOC officers wear red beret or STAR officers wear red berets?
I occassionally see Polic Officer wearing red berets patrolling the Woodlands MRT and Causeway point... Who are they? They have the red bus with them...
And lotsa them... Anybod knows why need so many of them and better trained officers than the regular polic officers to patrol?
Maybe intel source of terro attacks or something? -
Khaki berets is their off-duty type. Probably High-rank. The Gurkhas !!!.
SOC is either Red or Blue. -
SOC comprises of STAR (Special Tactics And Rescue), PTT (Police Tactical Troop) & K9 Unit (doggies).
I've not seen STAR troopers & they are highly classified to the extent of their faces being blurred out on Crime Watch, so I've no idea what beret these use. PTT used to be blue, not its red. K9 is blue.
Police MRT Unit is also blue beret. KINS also blue. KINS units basically protect key installations such as Changi Airport, Jurong Island, etc. -

K9 Blue Beret
NPCC Blue Beret
MRT Unit Blue Beret
Red Beret is Police tactical troops aka Ang Chia.
STAR team dont wear beret one. The only time u wil see them in uniform is when their wearing helmet.
Ang Chia are also deployed at areas like Orchard rd, Holland V, Serangoon Gardens, Boat/Clarke Quay.
They are not to be confused with the MRT unit which dons the blue berets.
MRT unit patrol in pairs.. Ang Chia go out prowling in grps.. And carry their MP5s and a vest too..
