In 2007 Indonesian Sukhoi jet fighters will be armedJakarta (ANTARA News) - Four Sukhoi jet fighters of the Indonesian Air Force, purchased in 2003 by the Indonesian government from Russia, will be armed in 2007.
The four Sukhois -- as one of the main strength of the Indonesian military (TNI) in the last two years -- starting in 2007 will have rockets, missiles and bombs, Air Force Chief of Staff Air Marshal Herman Prayitno said in Pekanbaru on Tuesday.
After witnessing air manoeuvres during the Air Force exercises in Pasir Putih, Pekanbaru, he said the contract on the procurement of the four Sukhois has already been signed by the two sides, and the four jet fighters would soon be sent to Indonesia when the right time comes.
The combat jets, dubbed Flankers, are upgraded Sukhoi Su-27 SKs each with a Lyulka AL-31F twin engine with a thrusting power of 12,550 kg.
These jet fighters are also fitted with IRST/Infra Red Search and Track equipment capable of tracking down and sensing targets 70 km away. No jets built in the West have such super sophisticated equipment.
All the killing arms fitted on the Sukhois are more reliable and better than the missiles manufactured by Israel, like Python or AIM-9L/M Sidewinder, which are also used by the West.(*)
