They should have ordered LARGE numbers of FEW types of aircraft, not SMALL numbers of MANY types of aircraft that they did. They got their priorities mixed up.Originally posted by papabear20046:U can say that again....
RMAF doesn't operate Superbugs at all. =DOriginally posted by fudgester:They should have ordered LARGE numbers of FEW types of aircraft, not SMALL numbers of MANY types of aircraft that they did. They got their priorities mixed up.
Hawks, Fulcrums, F-5s, Sukhois, Superbugs.... I honestly don't envy their logistics side at all.
Think after the Flankers are inducted into service, the RMAF aircraft type will be just: (i) Hawks, (ii) Hornets (will be replaced by the Rhino if RMAF decide to procured these), the (iii) Flankers &...(iv) ? Fulcrums (provided they have the pilot numbers).Originally posted by fudgester:...Hawks, Fulcrums, F-5s, Sukhois, Superbugs.... I honestly don't envy their logistics side at all.
they used it as anti-shipping role mainly.....Originally posted by seancannot:F18 ..strike role??? I thot Dr M said the hornet do not have the source code to carry out bombing mission of SG ....
We gave away our F16A to thais and scrap our skyhawk after extensive upgrading is this also a case of poor planning ...
not true ah.....Originally posted by spartan6:It is rumour tat RMAF has a small number of F-16A/B
F18 ..strike role??? I thot Dr M said the hornet do not have the source code to carry out bombing mission of SG ....the hornets main task is anti ship strike. it cannot handle AMRAAM in its present configuration. it can also perform ground attack / close support when required as shown during the one of the exercise with TNI when the Hawks were canned due to the crash off Kuantan.

It's true. The RMAF has the Vipers.Originally posted by duotiga83:not true ah.....
woah ! ....Originally posted by Black Aces:It's true. The RMAF has the Vipers.
But the MOST IMPORTANT difference of the RMAF Vipers is that KL didn't bought them from LM but from Tamiya (but also rumored from Hasegawa).
you can self fix also canOriginally posted by Fatum:woah ! ....
must have been a huge barter deal .....
wonder how many tons of palm oil that took ......
or maybe the japanese wanted rice ? ...
beg to differ. While RMAF's Hornets are primarily tasked to attack mission, the planes themselves are capable of being used as a pure fighter. While Malaysia's Hornets at this time are still not AMRAAM-equipped, they are armed with the ubiquitous Sidewinder and the Sparrow. Anyone remember a USN Bug which shot down an Iraqi plane whilst still carrying bombs during Desert Storm?those sidewinders and sparrows for the rmaf's hornets are more for self defence. and i believe the bug that shot down the iraqi plane was using the AMRAAM. not sidewinder. heck, they can carry AMRAAM on a shoot first basis. why want to use sidewinder? its like carrying a rifle but using a pistol instead.
nw the era is different liao.....long range shooting....1st look 1st kill.....Originally posted by khyron1:I beg to differ. the incident was during Desert Storm...AMRAAM was only operational late in the war (its virtually over). IIRC it was not AMRAAM, but either AIM-7 or-9. Besides, the Hornet is basically a swing-role aircraft. RMAF's Hornets might not be as effective as an AMRAAM toting Bug, but it can still perform air-to-air mission without much trouble.Originally posted by ferryman2393:those sidewinders and sparrows for the rmaf's hornets are more for self defence. and i believe the bug that shot down the iraqi plane was using the AMRAAM. not sidewinder. heck, they can carry AMRAAM on a shoot first basis. why want to use sidewinder? its like carrying a rifle but using a pistol instead.
ADJ's a malaysian publication ... it has a subtle and sometimes very amusing bias ...Originally posted by audiovideo:saw a MiG29 pic on the ADJ magz with a drag chute and the big print " made in malaysia" ... wow for a while thought since when our neighbour licensed to manufacture MIG 29 ..... sekali it's referring to the drag chute in fine print
