Actually its not that "new" - it's been used by the Marines for several years now. The Army uses the ACU (Army Combat Uniform), which is supposedly multi-purpose camoflage. The Navy and Air Force still uses the traditional BDUs, although the Air Force has been talking about upgrading its BDU for some time now.Originally posted by Seth35:The MARPAT camouflage... The MARPAT is neat but it I think the ACU is better, or at least "cooler" - literally. Its ALOT cooler and lighter than the old BDUs. Although it may not be the most convincing camo for woodland/jungle environments, it's absolutely perfect for urban environments. -
Correct. It's been a few years already. The MARPAT is neat but it I think the ACU is better, or at least "cooler" - literally. Its ALOT cooler and lighter than the old BDUs. Although it may not be the most convincing camo for woodland/jungle environments, it's absolutely perfect for urban environments.
ACU, the crowd's still out on it. I find the digital flecktarn quite alright, and with a little fluid design mod, could be adapted for both jungle/urban usage.
Color wise..not too good I must say. -

Actually, I like the color. Have you seen the ACUs on soldiers with your own eyes? It's (surprisingly) not that bad. I agree it's not the best for jungle/woodland. But it's PERFECT for urban, and seems decent for desert environments. When I first saw soldiers wearing ACUs walking along the road, I was stunned. They blended in perfectly! The only thing that gave them away was their faces and beret - neck down, they might as well have been part of the road itself.
The main problem with the ACUs is that it's apparently not as tough as the old BDUs. Some soldiers have complained about that and also the velcro straps. But the desert tan boots that come with the uniform are the best - no need for polishing!!

I don't know the exact cost of producing these types of uniforms but if we can afford to buy big ticket weapon systems such as the Formidable frigates and the F-15SG, i suppose new No. 4 uniforms shouldn't be much of a problem.
