The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet is an aircraft which saw numerous combat and export success. It is being exported to Canada, Australia,Switzerland and Malaysia. The F/A-18 Hornet traces its direct ancestry to the Northrop Cobra, a twin engine multimission fighter design developed for the export market in the late 1960s.The YF-17 failed to make it for the airforce's selection but subsequently end up to be a naval aircraft.
YF-22 is chosen over the YF-23 for the Advanced Tactical Fighter(ATF) programme. So do you forsee that the YF-23 will subsequently be developed into a new operational combat aircraft just like the F/A-18? However, some may say that the future of aerial combat is UCAV. Comments please.
