I'm no expert at booby-trap, I just think it is not an area to ignore.
Urban setting is mostly bombs. The fact that it is urban means you have less chance of being able to set an elaborate trap without people knowing unless it is inside someone's home.
Even the VC didn't do much booby-trapping inside cities apart from bombs - IEDs. They were either suicide bombs, bicycle bombs or car bombs - just as the Islamic terrorists. -

Standing SAF policy is "Soliders who are NOT trained to set up bobby traps are NOT allowed to do so" period. Only Combat Engineers, only when properly authorised, can set up IED in lieu of proper tools/materials.
No tampering with munitions is ever allowed, peace time or otherwise. More than half of the accidents are caused when the safety rules like this one is ignored. Using smoke or trip flares triggers as initiating devices to flamable materials, dismantling rounds (5.56, 7.62, blanks etc), bombs (motar), TNT blocks or rockets (LAW) for use of their contents are all big "No No". Only exception I know of is tripflare to igniate the landflame mine.
For those trained in expolsives, training always empahises use of proper materials i.e. I-chain with M1-A1 trigger device (not your clothes peg expedient) is one such example.
WHY? because with homemade devices, the change of misfire (failure to explode), backfire (unintended harm to others), hangfire (late to explode) and mishandling (explode during preparation/transit) is very real. -
