i think that rover is a HUMVEEOriginally posted by beavan:i think the rover chassis can't support the stress of firing that weapon.

I tink MLRS would be good choice..Its shortest max range 45km to max of 289km,with all the different rockets n warheads(cluster n smart sub-ammo) n GPS rocket for artillery "1 shot 1 kill" fire mission...N it uses common rounds with HIMARS High Mobility Artillery Rocket Sys which is C130 transportable..MRLS for armour n HIMARS for infantry. MRLS should outrange most of the MRL out there......We would out gun most in S.E.A
By MLRS i meant US Lockheed Martin's MLRS. Malaysia n Thailand both deployed MLRS they bought ASTROS II SYS. Malaysia got 12-18 Thailand unknown...Max range 150km if they upgrade to ASTROS III(which have yet to come on to market) or buy the round if not 80km max for now. Indonesia have NDL-40 Ground to Ground Multi Launcher with 2.75" rocket n max 8km range. So if we bought Lockheed Martin's MLRS with ATACMS Block IA missile this will extend our reach to more than 300km with GPS guidance. HIMARS is also capable of firing ATACMS Block IA missile.Originally posted by tankee1981:Malaysia and Indonesia already deploy MLRS but i am not sure of their max effective range though. That looks like an MLMS = Multiple launch motar system...Originally posted by tripwire:
for firepower, this one better.. cheaper and more devastating.. and disposable too.
dont have the range though.. but if we want range.. we should get SSM.
True...But others r getting more "defensive" weapons for their armies, i tink we should go shopping for some too...May not need all to be high tech but at least able to match or counter theirs....Wat do u tink? Anyone?Originally posted by beavan:too high tech for us. USA won't sell it to us unless somebody in the region already has it or is going to procure it.
Indonesia still using AMX-13, although some of which have been upgraded to SM1 standard by ST.Originally posted by sgf:With all these new toys we are supposedly gonna get, I'm surprised there's still little news about the SM1's replacement. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we're the only country in the region still using 40 odd year old light tanks.
Well, likely but the main reason was collaboration with Metalstorm to produce electriical fired ammo for the US mkt, that's mean a lot of $$$ for ST!!!!Originally posted by tripwire:last i heard... only singapore technologies makes those customised 40mm grenade that can be used on the metal storm system...
which brings to question.. why we bother to do so.. if SAF dont intend to use it?
you can load those multibarrel launcher onto helicopters as well... in fact UAV too... makes a BIG BIG mess of the enemy frontline...
i saw a pic of a system on the UGV... dont know if that UGV is ST or not.. looks similar...
I believe they have Scorpion tanks to back those up.Originally posted by tankee1981:Indonesia still using AMX-13, although some of which have been upgraded to SM1 standard by ST.
Well, the problem is the round. If the US doesn't adopt the Metalstorm or rather the new kinda ammunition, chances are the new 40mm won't be NATO standardised, which limits its market potential.Originally posted by gary1910:Well, likely but the main reason was collaboration with Metalstorm to produce electriical fired ammo for the US mkt, that's mean a lot of $$$ for ST!!!!
Metalstorm is useful when situation where high packing density couple with no chance of reload, eg UAV, robots, maybe helicopters. Aircraft? not too sure.Originally posted by tripwire:last i heard... only singapore technologies makes those customised 40mm grenade that can be used on the metal storm system...

Or, u need different kinda rounds to be fired without having to cycle the previous round out, and load in the one u want. Thats one key advantage of that mult-barrel design. U can fit each barrel with different type of rounds.Originally posted by touchstone_2000:Metalstorm is useful when situation where high packing density couple with no chance of reload, eg UAV, robots, maybe helicopters. Just look at some of the tank threads. Many of us indicated that the SAF owns more modern MBT, just that it is considered secret and not for public consumption.Originally posted by sgf:With all these new toys we are supposedly gonna get, I'm surprised there's still little news about the SM1's replacement. I sure hope you're not referring to the Tempest 'cos that sure as hell isn't modern.Originally posted by pwnz0r:Just look at some of the tank threads. Many of us indicated that the SAF owns more modern MBT, just that it is considered secret and not for public consumption.
I'm not certain, but I am told that every 4th batch through one particular armour unit will be trained on this tank. I'm in one of those batches. Also, it is common knowledge within the armour formation which tanks are these. In fact, some senior commanders receive this particular tank model as a farewell gift after their tenure with the battalion in question. So open your eyes when you visit AHQ, 8SAB and 4SAB. You might see this model in question.
EDIT: The battalion when earmarked to train on this tank usually is 3 tankee company - 1 AI, not the usual 3 AI - 1 tankee company.
I'm sure as hell not referring to the Tempest. Almost everyone knows we use the Tempest, not really anything confidential. But this other tank...Originally posted by sgf:I sure hope you're not referring to the Tempest 'cos that sure as hell isn't modern.
plausible models can only be the Sabra Mk2.Originally posted by pwnz0r:I'm sure as hell not referring to the Tempest. Almost everyone knows we use the Tempest, not really anything confidential. But this other tank...
