Indeed, there are many school of thoughts regarding the ethics of deploying mercenaries. The reason we have Gurkhas now is mainly because of our colonial past. Ok, Actually, The Gurkhas will and not hesitate to shoot at rioters or any one else as they are considered as a para-military force. When the orders are given, they WILL obey.
Maybe we can work on how we can customise home made bombs and throw at them? -

I have hardly heard of rioters to be organized, and most often when violence breaks out it is a issue of chaos as opposed to premediated tatical destruction. A lot of sad things will happen. -

You already said its a riot. So its disorganised. Of cuz it works.
In fact this tactics was used. During the Romans time with the briton's lady cheftain. Few thousand verse about 80 thousands... In the end the romans slaugther the britons. -

When Elephant run amok. They don't run on one direction and in herbs like pigs or fox. You'll probably get stampede too. BTW FYI elephants have very good memories in remembering who does that. -

Still...does any of you have any suggestions of the formations for the rioters to take which will effectively screw up the riot police's line of charge? I can't think of anything other then to group them into small groups of resistance, to break the charging line to a broken one.

The premise of the qn is flawed and really makes no sense.
I understand you are looking at it from a "weakness of the formation" tuype of viewpoint but still there are qns.
What is the aim of the rioters here?
If the aim is to stand ground, then breaking up into smaller groups is coutner productive since the riot polie will overrun you. The afore-mentioned snatch squads will also have a field day.
If you are looking at tactics against riot police in general I have another suggestion. Get paintballs filled with permanent dyes. Then mark the more agressive riot policeman. If you mark him, you send All of them a message: You cannot stay within the confines of the police station forever.
Might cause them to hesistate. -

Do you relise what you are doing in this forum? My point is your views on how to break up riot police formation is actually giving pontential trouble makers ideas. You are also encouraging others to throw in ideas on how to break the riot police formation.
Do you actually wish to see a all out riot and suntec city area becoming a battle zone? It wouldn't do Singapore any good if we do see our riot police falling and suntec city becoming a battle zone.
I know you are interested in military/law enforcement stuff and maybe you would kindly think twice before putting it down in the forum.

Well, another tactic is to identify the police men, and attack them when they are on their way home well before the riot is ging to happen, this way, we can eliminate man of the policemen.
