  I think ANY special ops training is hard and respectable. Anyway, I think its actually the Korean military that has alot to learn from Singapore's example. The SAF seems to have more systematic training, and better promotion opportunities for conscripts - not to mention troop welfare.

  I have had the opportunity to be with Japanese people and South Koreans at different stages of my life.
  
  I'd say that in my opinion, as much hate as I have for the devilish acts of Japanese during WWII, if Koreans were put in the same shoes in the same situation, they would be AT LEAST as nasty as the Japanese. Most probably worse.

  I am halfway through the book "The Changi Murals". It mentions Korean guards at POW camps in Changi.
  
  So there were indeed Korean guards in Singapore during World War Two. So far, the book hasn't talked anything about brutality though.

  There were also Taiwanese in Jap army stationed in Singapore. They spoke Hokkien and Japanese. And one Taiwanese Jap soldier was a teacher of the Japanese language to the local recruits.

  I agree that ANY special ops training is hard. But still, the ROK special forces training is the very toughest.

The Koreans have long had a tradition of toughness, and the concept of highly selective commando units who went through brutal training, had a lot of appeal in South Korea
